Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Jizhong, 28, lives in Zhangqiu City, Shandong Province. He graduated from the Shandong Province Civil Construction Vocational School and is an employee of the Zhangqiu City Urban Development Company.

At around 11:00 a.m. on December 27th, 2006, Mr. Li was arrested by two officers. At around 6:00 p.m. the same day, he was taken to a detention centre. On January 4th, 2007, Mr. Li was released because he protested the persecution by going on a hunger strike for eight days without water and he was in serious condition. Officials of the 610 Office1 extorted five thousand yuan2 from his family and permitted him to be released temporarily, on bail.

On January 5th, 2007, the officials had Mr. Li sentenced to three years of forced labour, but they did not arrest him immediately. They went to his home several times to search for evidence to use against him, but failed to find any.

On February 5th Mr. Li went to the city's 610 Office to ask for the return of his personal property, which the officials had taken after ransacking his home; instead he was arrested on the spot and taken to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp. Mr. Li went on a hunger strike without water again to protest the persecution. His wife is living in difficultly with their four-year-old daughter.

Note

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

2. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
