Ms. Yang Jusheng's family consists of five members that have been persecuted for believing in the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." Ms. Yang was persecuted to death. Her daughter and her son both suffered from schizophrenia due to severe persecution. A once happy family is now torn apart.

Ms. Yang, her son Sun Hui, and her son's family live in Shuangfeng County, Hunan Province. In 1996 Ms. Yang was suffering from several different diseases and started practising Falun Gong. After she started the practice, she changed dramatically both physically and mentally. All five of her family members started practising one after another. The whole family lived a very happy life through studying Dafa's principles and practising cultivation.

After the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Yang and Mr. Sun went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong. They were arrested and sent back to their hometown, where they were detained for more than three months. Three thousand yuan1 was extorted from them to cover their living expenses. In December 2000, Ms. Yang and Mr. Sun were arrested while they were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the truth about Falun Dafa, and both of them were sentenced to one year of forced labour. Ms. Yang was detained in the Baimalong Forced Labour Camp in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. While attempting to coerce Ms. Yang to renounce Falun Gong, the camp guards assaulted her with electric batons, forced her to squat or stand for long periods of time and did not permit her to go to the toilet. When Ms. Yang refused to give up the practice, her term was extended for seven more months.

Ms. Yang's son Mr. Sun was detained in the Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp in Hunan Province. The inmates were directed by the camp guards to monitor him, and he was forced to work around the clock. Once Mr. Sun shouted loudly "Falun Dafa is good", and he was then beaten and put in solitary confinement. He was injected with unknown drugs, and the drugs were also put into his meals. Mr. Sun suffered both physically and mentally. He started drooling uncontrollably, and his mind became unclear. In order to avoid taking responsibility for Mr. Sun's condition, the labour camp officials sent him back home.

In July 2004, Ms. Yang was sentenced to one year and nine months of forced labour because she once again distributed leaflets about Falun Gong to people. Police ransacked her home and confiscated her Dafa books and materials. Because Ms. Yang's eldest daughter argued with the police as they tried to take her mother away, she was detained in the detention centre for fifteen days. She suffered a mental breakdown due to the torture inflicted on her during her detention. Ms. Yang was again detained in the Baimalong Forced Labour Camp. Her term was extended for several months because she still refused to renounce Falun Gong. In November 2006, shortly after Ms. Yang was released, she passed away due to the long-term mental and physical torture that she endured while in the labour camp.

After Mr. Sun came back home, he resumed studying Falun Dafa and practising the exercises. He gradually recovered. While he was working in Changsha City, Hunan Province he clarified the truth to people and was reported to the authorities. The police from Yuhua Police Station in Changsha City arrested him and detained him for three days. He was beaten by police and hung up with handcuffs. The police also confiscated 460 yuan from him that was in his possession at the time.

On March 30th, 2006, Mr. Sun was arrested again while distributing leaflets in Shuangfeng County. Police assaulted him with electric batons, and he was sentenced to one year and seven months of forced labour. Mr. Sun was later released for medical reasons because he was again suffering from schizophrenia.
