On October 3rd, 2007, the Washington, DC, Minghui School was granted the 2007 Community Service Award from Winchester Homes. The school was one of five groups receiving this award in the greater DC area and the only school among those groups.

The spokesperson for Winchester Homes said that the purpose of the award was to recognise those non-profit organisations important to the Washington, DC, area, to bring people's attention to them, and to encourage them.
Ms. Yu Jianmei, president of the school, said, "This is the first time the Minghui School has won such a big award in the community. Our teachers and students are very happy."
Ms. Yu said that the school is located in Maryland near Washington. There are more than 50 teachers and students involved in the school. For the students speaking English, Minghui School teaches them not only the Chinese language and profound Chinese history, but more importantly, how to follow the principles of "Truth-Compassion-Forbearance" in their daily lives.
Ms. Cui, a teacher in the school, participated in the awards ceremony. She said, "Students at the Minghui School come from Maryland, Washington, and Virginia. The youngest is two years old and the eldest is over ten years old. The children follow the principles of 'Truth-Compassion-Forbearance' and are considerate of others. They often promote Chinese culture on the weekends and bring the grace of Falun Dafa to the community."
The Washington, DC, Minghui School was established in 2001 and was the first Minghui School in the world. Since then, Minghui Schools have been established in more than 30 countries.
