Mr. Xie Tianyou, a Falun Dafa practitioner, was arrested in Hebei Province by the police officers from Dezhou City, Shandong Province, in 2007. He was then sent to a forced labour camp, leaving behind his 70-year-old mother, his 86-year-old grandmother, his wife, and his two children to do the farm work. His family is suffering severe hardship.

Mr. Xie is 45 years old. At around 3:00 a.m. on October 15th, 2007, more than ten police officers from the Domestic Security Division of Dezhou City Police Department drove to Gucheng County, Hebei Province, in two police cars. They broke into Mr. Xie's temporary residence. They confiscated over ten satellite receivers, Falun Dafa books, leaflets exposing the persecution, and about 3,000 yuan1 in cash. That same morning, they took him to Dezhou City Detention Centre.

In the detention centre, the guards incited the inmates to beat Mr. Xie brutally. He was forced to do hard labour every day. For example, he was forced to make mourning wreaths using toxic materials. He was given one or two small steamed buns and some noodle soup each meal, which was only enough to ensure that he would not die from hunger.

On November 16th, 2007, Mr. Xie Tianyou was sentenced to two years in a forced labour camp. He was then transferred to Guanzhuang No. 2 Forced Labour Camp in Zibo City, Shandong Province.
