At noon on January 28th, 2008, people from all walks of life in Washington DC gathered outside the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC to condemn embassy officials Qiao Hong, Zhou Xiaomei and others for attempting to defame the "Chinese New Year Spectacular" in letters to local government officials in the US, Canada, Korea, Sweden and other places. They also advised these officials not to continue with such activities, as they not only do harm to others but also themselves.

Chinese Communist Party's suppression of Divine Performing Arts reflects the confrontation between the Party culture and authentic Chinese culture
New Tang Dynasty Television's (NTDTV) independent commentator Mr. Zhang Tianliang stated that if a country wants to stand independently among the countries in the world, it must have its own culture. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is the biggest destroyer of traditional Chinese culture. It is unable to produce anything that compares with western classical culture, and unable to shoulder the important mission of reviving Chinese culture; therefore, it can only usurp traditional Chinese culture. For example: when western leaders visit China, they [CCP] will arrange a visit to Xi'an, but what is displayed is not the spirit of the Han and Tang Dynasty, but simply objects that survived from the past. NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular showcases the real essence of authentic Chinese culture, which makes the CCP very embarrassed. However, the CCP knows that it is unable to promote traditional culture on its own, because this would only hasten the collapse of the CCP's Party culture. Therefore, it chooses to suppress NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular shows, and this reflects the confrontation between CCP's Party culture and authentic Chinese culture.
US elected officials rebuff the CCP's interference
Maryland resident Wang Pei said that the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles wrote to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in California in December, asking them not to support the NTDTV's Chinese New Year Spectacular to be staged in mid January this year, claiming that the show received support from Falun Gong. Chris Norby, the Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors openly denounced the Chinese Consulate's pressure recently in the Los Angeles Times. He stated, "This is an insult toward me and I will not accept it."
In addition, not long ago, Mike Benjamin, a New York State Assemblyman, and James Naugle, Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, both received letters from their respective Chinese Consulates, pressuring them not to go see the performances or to extend festive greetings.
Just like Mr. Norby, they firmly rebuffed the consulate's unreasonable demands. Mr. Benjamin published the Consulate's letter and condemned their thuggish behaviour. He said that the Chinese communists are a cult. Mayor Naugle had high praise for the Chinese Spectacular and issued a proclamation. He also said that he would attend the performance and that as many people as possible should go see the show.
Last year, prior to the Chinese New Year Spectacular in Canberra, capital of Australia, the Chinese Embassy officials wrote to every MP, defaming the show, and telling them not to go see it. On the contrary, the CCP's attempt had the opposite effect - all of these MPs were attracted to come to see the show.
Ms. Wang Pei said that the CCP's interference has turned into a good promotion for Divine Performing Arts.
Public exposure of the CCP's deeds is the best way to subdue them
Regarding why the CCP dares to display such thuggish tactics in western democratic society, Virginia resident Ms. Zhang Hailian analysed that the CCP takes advantage of a loophole. Western society has strict laws, and everything follows a rule, so generally speaking, people do not fear that there will be turmoil in society. But the CCP thinks it is above the law, and no law can subdue it, so it is not afraid, because its thuggish behaviour exceeds the restrictions of western society. From the very beginning, local government officials who were harassed by the CCP, only threw the CCP's faxes and letters into the dustbins. Now, since the CCPs actions have become even more rampant, more and more government officials are exposing its thuggish behaviour. The facts show that public exposure of the CCP's activity is the best way to subdue it.
Maryland resident Ms. Tao Lisha said that the Divine Performing Arts splendidly showcases the essence of China's 5,000 years of traditional culture, and the CCP's defamation of the Divine Performing Arts will be a disgrace forever in history.
In the end, participants of the rally shouted loudly to the Chinese Embassy, "For the sake of your own future, we hope the embassy officials not to do such things any more. Please go to see the show by yourself, and you will experience its profound beauty."
