Ms. He Chengsu is over 40 years old and is a resident of Southeast Street in Yi County, Liaoning Province. She began practising Falun Gong in 1998. After July 20th, 1999, when the Jiang Zemin [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime began the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. He was repeatedly persecuted by various means, including arrests, beatings, detention, and being sentenced to forced labour. She also had 2,400 yuan1 extorted from her.

On July 20th, 1999, Ms. He went to Beijing to help appeal for Falun Gong. She was subsequently taken into custody and confined in Beijing's Fengtai Stadium. She was allowed to go home after two days. During the night of September 22nd, Yi County Chengguan township police officer Chen Nailian took her to Dongguan Village. There she was forced to undergo brainwashing to try to make her give up her belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." She was threatened with further detainment if she did not comply. She did not agree to give up her faith, so she was detained for an additional 24 hours.

On October 26th, 1999, the Chinese Communist regime further slandered Falun Gong. Ms. He wanted to use her personal experience to explain the facts of Falun Gong to the government. She told those in charge, "Falun Gong is a very good qigong practice that provides an effective way of curing illnesses and improving peoples' health. The practice of Falun Gong has brought many benefits and absolutely no harm to society." After she said this to the officials, she was detained for 34 days in the county police station and had 2,400 yuan extorted from her.

On September 11th, 2004, during the night, county national security team leader Wang Zhanlin brought several people to search her home, but did not find anything that they could arrest her for. Wang asked if she practised Falun Gong, and she replied, "Yes." For her honest answer, she was again detained for another eight days at the police station. Ms. He was then sent to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp and persecuted there for 372 days.
