Police in Mengying County, Shandong Province, Sentence Elderly Practitioners Ms. Wang Fafeng and Ms. Wang Zaifeng to Forced Labour

Ms. Wang Fafeng and Ms. Wang Zaifeng, two elderly practitioners in Mengying County, Shandong Province, were arrested. The local police took them to Shandong Province No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp.

At around 5 p.m. on December 20th, 2007, Ms. Wang Fafeng from Zhoujiagouzi Village, Mengying Town, and Ms. Wang Zaifeng from Tangjiazhuangzi Village, Jiuzhai Township, were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong when the police from Jiuzhai Township Police Station arrested them.

At around 9 p.m. that night, Ju Peng, the Chairman of the 610 Office1 in Jiuzhai Township, and Ju Dianwu, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Branch in Yinjiawa Village, took a dozen people with them and broke into Ms. Wang Zaifeng's home. They ransacked it and confiscated a bundle of leaflets exposing the persecution, Falun Gong books, a TV and DVD player. They also smashed her portable stereo and stole 200 yuan1 in cash. Ju Peng and his henchmen punched and kicked her husband and stuffed him in the boot of the car.

Next, they went to Mr. Li Yuxiang's home and confiscated his Falun Gong books, portable stereo, and Falun Gong exercise music tape. They arrested Mr. Li Yuxiang. Then they broke into Mr. Lu Wenjiang's home in the same village, giving his wife a terrible shock. After arresting Mr. Lu, they looted his TV and computer. Ju Peng punched and kicked Mr. Zhang Jiafu, in his 60s, and Mr. Li Yuxiang, 78.

Mr. and Mrs. Zhang Jiafu, Mr. Li Yuxiang, and Mr. Lu Wenjiang were each detained for four days. They weren't released until personnel from the Jiuzhai Township government and police station had extorted 10,000 yuan from them. On January 15th, 2008, the police arrested Ms. Wang Zaifeng again and sentenced her to 18 months in Shandong Province No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp.

After Ms. Wang Fafeng was arrested, the police from Jiuzhai Township Police Station transferred her to Mengying Town that very day. Next, the police ransacked her home and confiscated her collection of Falun Gong books, her food aide card, ID, proof of handicap, and her certificate of residency. Her husband, Li Zongping, in his 60s, is disabled. His right arm and one leg are incapacitated, and he is also blind in one eye. After the officials from Mengying Town government ransacked Ms. Wang's home, they arrested her husband and kept him incarcerated in Mengying Detention Centre for a month. Ms. Wang Fafeng was imprisoned in Yinan County Detention Centre and sentenced to 18 months in Shandong Province No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp, where she is currently serving time. Handicapped and alone, Mr. Li Zongping has had difficulty getting along. Life is even harder for him now than it was before.

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
