Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cui Zhanxiang, a resident of Liangtun Village, Botou City in Hebei Province, was arrested in May 2006. After he was forced to make a payment to the police, he was released. In June 2008, Mr. Cui was arrested again. Over a hundred residents of Liangtun Village then co-signed a letter asking the Botou City Court for his release.

The Minghui/Clearwisdom website published an article about this case and exposed the persecution of Mr. Cui. (http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2008/8/27/100164.html) Police officers from the Botou City Department found out and threatened all of the co-signers of the letter, Mr. Cui's relatives, and their employers. They said that if foreign reporters investigated this case, they would be fired from their jobs. Agents from the Botou City 610 Office1 and the Political and Judiciary Committee are in charge of this case. They have twice assigned people to the government office of Xixindian Township. The head of the village, the chief of the village residential committee who wrote the letter, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) secretary of the village have all answered detailed questions from government authorities about the petition for Mr. Cui. Later, Xixindian Township officials took away the seal of authority from the village committee, effectively dissolving the village's local government.

Currently every entrance to the village is being blocked by people assigned by Xixindian Township officials. Everyone entering or leaving the village is investigated, in an attempt to keep information about the case from getting out.

After the case was disclosed on the Internet, CCP officials from Botou City suspected that Mr. Cui's younger daughter Ms. Cui Sufang sent the article, and they ordered police officers from the Botou City Department to arrest her. Currently Mr. Cui Zhanxiang is still being detained at the Botou City Detention Centre. Every day he is forced to perform physical labour and is physically abused. One month ago, he was emaciated and had trouble eating and drinking. He was also on the brink of mental collapse. His current condition is unknown.

We urgently call on people all over the world to pay attention to this case.
