Mr. Xu Zhi is a Falun Gong practitioner from Baiquan County, Heilongjiang Province. In 2000, because he firmly believed in Falun Gong and did not give up his faith, he was sent to a forced labour camp for one year by the Chinese Communist Party. In 2007, because Mr. Xu was carrying brochures that explained the truth about Falun Gong, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) sentenced him to seven years in prison.

On September 29th, 2007, Mr. Xu and other fellow practitioners returned to their home town in Baiquan County from Harbin. Around 1 p.m., town and county level police officers, including the secretary of the town political committee, got out of their cars and took Mr. Xu away. They tortured him for one day and two nights. Officers with the Daoli Sub-bureau in Harbin went to the Baiquan County Police Station and took him back to the Daoli Detention Centre.

When the Daoli District Court convened its session, they did not allow Mr. Xu to speak and sentenced him to seven years in prison. Daoli Detention Centre officials took Mr. Xu to Hulan Training Centre.
