At the time of the 60th Anniversary of Human Rights Day, the Cham area branch of Amnesty international held a study meeting at the library in Kotzting. Ms Anna Weinzierl (regional chair of Amnesty International) read aloud an excerpt entitled “God is fighting with us shoulder to shoulder” by lawyer Gao Zhisheng, which included lawyer Gao’s statement that he will quit the CCP. The study meeting was initiated by the Falun Gong Human Rights Working Group in Cham, and gained the approval of the Kotzting city mayor and the support of the director of the city library.

The Kotztinger daily newspaper (Kotztinger Zeitung) reports on the study meeting The Bayerwald-Echo newspaper, Kotztinger’s local front page headline reports on the study meeting The Rundschau weekly reports on the study meeting in its periodical

By means of the study meeting, the human rights workers of Cham hoped that people would support and pay close attention to the human rights persecution happening in China, giving support to groups in a disadvantageous position and speaking out for them.

Evangelischer Pfarr is a Protestant pastor in Kotztinger city, and he attended the study meeting with much interest. At the discussion after the study meeting, he spoke especially about the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong, expressing how he has always paid close attention to this issue.

Monika Hofmaier had read Mr. Gao’s autobiography before coming to the study meeting, and she was shocked. She said, she could not imagine that such an act of persecution (against Falun Gong) that was lacking in human nature could actually occur in the modern world.

In addition, Anna Weinzierl expressed that choosing to hold the study meeting in Kotztinger was very meaningful. Kotztinger city has Germany’s first Chinese hospital that is well known far and wide. This city has a direct relationship with China. One hopes that whilst we are benefiting from the traditional Chinese medicine, that everybody will not underestimate the persecution that is currently happening in China under the autocracy of the CCP.

After the meeting, Amnesty International did an on the spot collection of signatures demanding the release of Gao and sent them to CCP leader Wen Jiabao.

The media valued the importance of the study meeting, and the Kotztinger Zeitung, the Bayerwald Echo and the Rungschau all did reports with photographs of the activity.
