Ms. Xu Lindi is a practitioner in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. After Ms. Xu retired, both she and her husband suffered from many illnesses. When they started to practise Falun Gong, both of them recovered from their poor health. However, after the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Gong in July 1999, they were severely persecuted. Their home was searched five times and their property was confiscated. Ms. Xu's husband was arrested and detained five times, for 34 days the fifth time. The Jiangbei District Police Department forced Ms. Xu to pay 15,000 yuan1 for her husband's release.
Within one month of her husband's return home, someone called Ms. Xu and told her to pay another 100,000 yuan. She and her husband lived on a pension and could not pay such a large amount. Ms. Xu was very worried.
Several days later, officers Wang Quangui, Li Huamin and others of the Wucheng Division of the Jinhua Police Department went to her home at midnight. They took her husband from his bed, saying they wanted to talk to him at the police department and would return him immediately afterwards. However, her husband was subsequently sent to a forced labour camp for three years.
Ms. Xu was very worried about her husband; he was 73 years old. Jinhua City 610 Office2 agents also forced her to attend brainwashing sessions for more than 40 days.
In the brainwashing centre, Ms. Xu was interrogated, threatened and deprived of sleep. She was hurt both physically and mentally. When she was released, Ms. Xu was skinny with pains all over her body and she could not get out of bed. She passed away on July 21st, 2004.
One day before Ms. Xu passed away, she wrote a letter to the 610 Office. In the letter, she opposed the persecution and declared that everything she was forced to say against Falun Gong was void. She also said, "Falun Gong is good" and "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good," and that she would determinedly practise Falun Gong. After the 610 Office agents received the letter, they once again went to harass and persecute her. But by then she had already passed away.
Note
1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
