On January 25th, 2009, Chinese New Year's Eve, Falun Gong practitioners from the Kyushu area held a candlelight vigil in front of the Chinese Consulate in Fukuoka, Japan. They peacefully protested the ten-year-long persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Practitioners held banners stating, "Support for the 48 million people who quit Chinese Communist Affiliated Organizations," "Immediately stop the persecution of Falun Gong," "Stop to the Chinese Communist Party from removing organs from living Falun Gong practitioners," and "Falun Dafa is good." The practitioners also mounted displays showing the brutal tortures used on practitioners. Many passersby and cars stopped to read more about it.

Snowflakes fell on practitioners' faces, shoulders, and the banners. Later into the night, the snow turned to rain. In the rain and cold, practitioners lit their candles to mourn fellow practitioners who have died as a result of the persecution and to express their firm belief in their practice.
