DAEGU, South Korea - "There are so many Chinese [people[ here!" said Ms. Wang to her friends during intermission of Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour show at Suseong Artpia, one of the five large theaters in the city.
DPA began the Asian leg of its 80-city tour and will perform all over South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
Ms. Wang said that she learned about the authentic Chinese culture through watching the performance, saying she was able to reconnect herself to her homeland.
Ms. Wang came to Korea four years ago after getting married. She loved the dances and music." The more you watch, the more you enjoy," she said.
One of the programmes that touched her the most was Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, about a father who is persecuted to death by the Chinese Communist Party for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on truthfulness, compassion and tolerance.
She said that she liked it simply "because this is the truth."
During the programme, she said that she was unable to hold back her tears. She continued to say that certain scenes where the daughter is crying over her dead father along with her mother showing deep sorrow touched Ms. Wang deeply.
More than 600,000 people watched performances in 2008 and more than 800,000 people will see the shows this year. The artistic traditions of China, that once thrived, are now suppressed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Mainland China. The company seeks to breathe new life into traditional Chinese culture, while providing audiences everywhere with an experience of sublime beauty.
For the second year in a row, the Chinese embassy pressured the Universal Arts Centre in Seoul, which is scheduled to host DPA on February 4th-8th.
Ms. Wang said that it is "not understandable" for the CCP to take such actions since the show touched her in such a way.
Regardless of the CCP's attempts to derail the show in Korea, Ms. Wang said that she will definitely come and watch the show again.
