Mr. Zhang Wenliang, 37, lived in Dongying Village, Jingzhi Town, Anqiu City, Shandong Province. He went to Beijing several times to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong, and was arrested at the end of 2000. After he was bailed out of detention, he and his wife, Zhao Hui, had to leave their home to avoid being arrested. Even after fleeing his home to avoid persecution, he was arrested five times and detained in Anqiu City, Weifang City, Qingdao City (all in Shandong Province), Beijing and Kunming City (Yunnan Province). He was subjected to four years of detention, which damaged his health. He tried to appeal being imprisoned unfairly, but it was in vain. His elderly parents were heart broken because of the mistreatment he suffered, and his mother cried so hard, that her vision was damaged.
On May 10th, 2007, while he was installing a Satellite dish in his sister's home in Qingdao City, police arrested him, and detained him in the Qingdao City Second Detention Centre. Later he was sent to a forced labour camp in Wangcun for 18 months. At the same time, police ransacked his parents' home, and took away their three Satellite dishes, TV set, etc. The confiscated items were worth more than four thousand yuan1.
In 2008, he became very weak while in Wangcun Labour Camp, and was treated at Wangcun Hospital. He developed pleural hydrocele, leg pains, and was severely emaciated. The Jingzhi Town police took him to be treated in Jingzhi Town Hospital. By the time he checked out of the hospital in October 2008, he could not take care of himself, and his life was in danger. Even in such a poor condition, local police continued to harass him at home often. He died on December 6th, 2008.
