The Huanggu District Court of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, planned to hold a "trial" of Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wu Yufeng, Mr. Zheng Yi, Mr. Lin Huaiyu, Mr. Zhao Guoliang, Mr. Cai Zongbin, and Ms. Liu Guifeng on February 6th, 2009. Before the court convened, all ten lawyers involved in the case received phone calls from the city judicial bureau and the district judicial office. The judicial authorities threatened the lawyers, telling them not to defend their clients' claims of innocence, or to challenge court decisions in the case.

It was said that the court also called Beijing to verify the identification of the Beijing lawyers, asking for their ID numbers and home addresses. The Beijing Lawyer Centre did not cooperate with the request. The lawyers involved asked the judicial bureau to present their demands in writing, but since their demands are illegal, they refused. The lawyers decided to carry on in the practitioners' defence. Hence, the authorities' plot to pressure the lawyers came to nothing.

The community also called the practitioners' families, saying only one relative per family was allowed to attend the session. Many family members questioned this policy, saying, "You said it is a public session, didn't you? The law states that any person above 18 years old with an identification card can audit a public session as long as the case does not involve state and personal secrets. Aren't you breaking the law if you do not allow us to attend?"

The Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) tactics show that they, in actuality, were aware of their guilt.

Before the Beijing Olympic Games, about 100 Falun Gong practitioners from Shenyang City were arrested, including the above six practitioners.
