Elderly Practitioner Ms. Zhong Dongqin Imprisoned

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhong Dongqin is 71 years old and from Hengshui City, Hebei Province. She is the elder sister of Mr. Zhong Cunjie, a practitioner who was persecuted to death. On July 24th, 2008, police officers forcibly arrested Ms. Zhong and sent her to the Hengshui City Detention Centre. She is still detained there.

Ms. Zhong's brother, Mr. Zhong Cunjie was an employee of the Hebei Province (Hengshui City) Labour Camp. During the persecution of Falun Gong, Mr. Zhong was sentenced twice to prison terms. His health was in critical condition after being imprisoned for seven years. On February 5th, 2008, he passed away, leaving behind his 89-year-old mother and his son.

In order to take care of her mother, Ms. Zhong Dongqin moved from Langfang City to live at her sister's home at Zhangzhuang Village in Hengshui City. On the morning of July 24th, 2008, Zhang Tieqian, the village party branch secretary, Zhang Shengliang, a staff member of the village committee, and Zhang Hongliang along with more than 10 local police officers broke into Ms. Zhong's nephew's (Zheng Baojian) home. They confiscated Falun Gong books, Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution, printers and other valuable items. Both Ms. Zhong Dongqin and Mr. Zheng Baojian were arrested. Mr. Zheng's young son and wife, who has epilepsy, were left at home alone. Mr. Zheng has been sentenced to a year of forced labour at Handan City Labour Camp.

Ms. Zhong Dongqin was sent to Hengshui Detention Centre. Her sister and friends went to the detention centre several times, but have been refused a visit with Ms. Zhong. In the afternoon of October 19th, 2008, Taocheng District Court in Hengshui City wanted to try Ms. Zhong without notifying her family. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
