On February 24th, 2009, officers from the Niuzhuang Town Police Station in Haicheng City, Liaoning Province, took Mr. Tian Baocheng and Ms. Cui Yajing away from their homes. The excuse was that they had attended a gathering held by a Falun Gong practitioner.

Mr. Tian Baocheng and His Family Persecuted

Mr. Tian Baocheng is 54 years old. In 2006, he was detained for 15 days because he practised the Falun Gong exercises.

Mr. Tian Baocheng's younger brother, Mr. Tian Baodong, has been detained in forced labour camps twice because he practises Falun Gong. He was released in August 2008. As a result of torture, he cannot walk or take care of himself. His child is a high school student. The family is dependent on his wife, who makes a living by pedalling a tricycle to transport passengers.

Mr. Tian Baocheng's other younger brother, Mr. Tian Baowei, was detained many times because he persisted in his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Before the Beijing Olympic Games, Mr. Tian Baowei became homeless and destitute in order to avoid being arrested. Now he has been listed as wanted by the authorities. His two children are in school. His wife is their only source of financial support. The police also went to his home to harass his wife and children.

Before the Beijing Olympic Games, the police forced Mr. Tian's 70-years-old father to write a statement to give up practising Falun Gong. His father was so frightened that his former illness relapsed. Now he is still sick in bed. The police also often take his mother to the police station for so-called investigation.

Ms. Cui Yajing and Her Family Persecuted

Ms. Cui Yajing is 44 years old. She had been sentenced to three years in prison because she distributed flyers about Falun Gong. She was detained in the Liaoning Provincial Women's Prison. In the summer of 2007, Ms. Cui Yajing and her father were arrested together and detained for two weeks.

Ms. Cui Yajing's younger sister, Ms. Cui Yazhen, was sentenced to 18 months in a forced labour camp before the Beijing Olympic Games. Now she is being detained in Masanjia Forced Labour Camp.

Ms. Cui's father, Mr. Cui Chunbiao, is 73 years old. In 2007, he was sentenced to four years in prison. Now he is being detained in Dalian Prison. Before practising Falun Gong, Mr. Cui suffered from many illnesses. He went many places seeking medical treatment, but nothing was effective. After practising Falun Gong, his illnesses disappeared without his knowing why. His full head of white hair gradually turned black. He became more kind. After the persecution started, he was detained twice and sent to a forced labour camp for two years because he went to appeal and to explain the facts about Falun Gong. Before the Olympic Games, thirty or forty Anshan policemen went to his home to ransack it.

Now, Ms. Cui Yajing's mother is at home alone. Her neck is swollen, and she has difficulty swallowing because of fear and worry.

Persons responsible for the arrest:

Liao Xiaohai, Head of the Niuzhuang Town Police Station
