On April 14th, when seventy-something Ms. Shen Jin'e, a Falun Gong practitioner in Shanghai, was visiting her relatives in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, four plain clothes police broke in and forcibly searched the house. Ms. Shen asked them to show their legal documents. One of them took out some papers, flashed them in front of Ms. Shen's eyes and then quickly put them back, saying, "You broke the law. You will be sentenced and thrown into prison. Now you may find your lawyer!"

Police forcibly dragged Ms. Shen out of the door. They dragged her to the side of a car which carried no police licence plate. Seeing police searching the room and forcibly taking people away, the neighbours all gathered around and watched. Being afraid that their evil acts would be exposed, the police then told villagers who were around them, "We are bringing her back. She has something to resolve in Shanghai." At that point, Ms. Shen spoke aloud, "I'm a Falun Gong practitioner. They are forcibly taking me away without following any legal procedures! Falun Gong is good!" The police hastened to stuff Ms. Shen into the car.

They took Ms. Shen to the Hongjia Police Station. In front of police filling the whole room, Ms. Shen asked loudly, "What law did I break? Did I kill somebody or set something on fire? Did I commit embezzlement?" Police said, "Practising Falun Gong is a crime." Ms. Shen asked again, "Falun Gong teaches people to be good and to exercise the body. Whose law does it break?"

The police hastily asked Ms. Shen not to speak more. One officer said, "We have no choice though. We have to eat. Our boss asked us to do this." Ms. Shen said, "Your bosses are eating, drinking, using prostitutes, gambling and embezzling. Yet you are still putting yourself at their disposal. You ought not to do this." Many police slid out of the room in silence.

At that time, the people from Shanghai were waiting to forcibly take her away. One of them was a member of the residents' committee and another one, Li, was a police officer from the Lingyun Police Station. On that same night, they forcibly took Ms. Shen away and drove her to Shanghai. In the Lingyun Police Station, the police threatened to sentence the elderly woman and tried to force Ms. Shen to sign a promise to give up Falun Gong. This request was firmly refused by Ms. Shen. The police had to threaten and tempt Ms. Shen's family to sign the document behind Ms. Shen's back. Only after that, did they let Ms. Shen go home.
