Engineer from Chinese Academy of Science, Wang Ying, Transferred to Guangdong Woman's Prison

The 610 office¹ in Guangzhou city arrested a group of practitioners on April 15th, 2008. Over a year later, most of them are still being detained. Wang Ying, an engineer from the Earth Chemistry Institute of the Chinese Academy of Science, is among them. She was sentenced to three years in prison. The 610 office in Guangzhou city ignores her appeals and recently transferred her to Guangdong Women's Prison.

Wang Ying

Wang Ying is fifty years old. She was born to an intellectual family. Her father is a professor at the Chinese Academy of Science. Her mother was a teacher (she passed away in 2002, while Wang Ying was being detained). Her husband is the chief of the Kaolin project in the Earth Chemistry Institute of the Chinese Academy of Science. He is an expert in kaolin and kaolinite processing.

In August of 1988, Wang Ying suffered from kidney disease. After the treatment failed, she developed uraemia and her life was in great danger. In 1995, she started practising Falun Gong. Within one month, all of her symptoms disappeared, and she became healthy. Since then, she has strictly followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and has become a kinder person.

Since she started practising Falun Gong, Wang Ying has become more diligent in her work. She was praised by her colleagues and authorities. She has been in charge of the analysis of laser spectroscopy at the Earth Chemistry Institute of the Chinese Academy of Science since 1990. Because of the accuracy of her test results, she is influential in the field of precious stone appraisals. Being kind and responsible, she has achieved excellence in her work. Since 2004, she has been awarded the "Outstanding worker"in the scientific equipment field in the Guangzhou area for five consecutive years. She is also a good wife and mother.

However, since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, Wang Ying's family has been harassed. She was detained in a forced labour camp from July 2000 to August 2002. In April 2008 she once again was detained at Guangzhou city Tianhe detention centre. In addition, she was brought to court and sentenced to three years in prison.

The equipment that Wang Ying was in charge of (made in England and is worth over two million Yuan²) has been left unused during the past year. This prominent scientist is brutally tortured in a detention centre because of her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. On many occasions, she suffered various punishments including been handcuffed and chained up for a long time because she practised the exercises.

We call on people in China and overseas to look into the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Together we will stop the torture of innocent people.

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

2. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
