Ms. Guo Zhaoqing in Hunan Province Arrested and Persecuted Nine Times

Ms. Guo Zhaoqing, a practitioner from Yiyang City, Hunan Province, was arrested by police in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, on April 21st, 2009. She is currently being held and persecuted in Linli City. Ms. Guo has been arrested nine times since the persecution began in 1999, and tortured in many different ways, as evidenced by the many scars on her body.

Ms. Guo, 37, was a manager at Qunyii House in Yiyang City. She is a calligrapher and was honoured as an outstanding in the field many times. She was regarded as a prominent youngster both at work and in the community. She began practising Falun Gong in 1996 and acted as the chief volunteer assistant beginning in April 1999. Because she was steadfast in her belief, she was dismissed from her position of head secretary of the city Calligraphers' Association.

Ms. Guo was arrested and jailed in Tianjin City when she went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong in 2000. On January 16th, 2001, she was arrested by the local head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and taken to Baimalong Forced Labour Camp in Zhuzhou for two years. During this period, she was handcuffed and hung, electrically shocked, and beaten. The torture put her life in peril, and she was then taken home by her family.

Ms. Guo was subsequently repeatedly harassed and arrested. On December 20th, 2004, she and her parents were arrested by CCP leaders Wang Yongkang, Wu Xiyong, and Huang Junhua in the Wuling District of Changde City. The family's entire savings of 23,000 yuan1 that they lived on was seized. Her elderly parents' health worsened. Both their heart conditions worsened, and their blood pressures increased to as high as 210. In spite of their conditions, they were still detained for three months. Afterwards, Ms. Guo was detained alone in Liling, Changde City. She later escaped.

During the ten years from 1999 through 2009, Ms. Guo had been arrested nine times, and she has endured many sorts of torture. Her body is covered with scars. According to one of the perpetrators, she has undergone hunger strikes for about 300 days. No matter how roughly she was treated, she never "confessed" to anything or signed any papers associated with her persecution.
