Four Practitioners from Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province Have Been Taken into Custody

On May 13th, 2009, four practitioners from the Xuanhua District of Zhangjiakou City were arrested at Liu Yongli's home. They are Yan Xiulian, Feng Yanli, Liu Yongli and Wang Minghai. Afterwards, their homes were all ransacked. However, the perpetrators were so afraid that they did not present any documents, nor did they identify where they were coming from when they were doing these wrong deeds. These practitioners' relatives don't know their whereabouts.

On May 12th and May 13th, personnel from the residential committees and police stations of Xuanhua District started harassing practitioners by going to their homes or making threatening phone calls. Reportedly, on the morning of May 13th, while these four practitioners were at Liu Yongli's home, they were found by the police and were arrested. At noon, the police ransacked the practitioners' homes.

Practitioner Ms. Liu Yongli, around 40 years old, is self-employed and lives on the east side of the Xuanhua residential area. In 2002, Ms. Liu Yongli and her husband Ren Yuzhong were arrested at the same time and were sent to Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp, where they were subjected to three years of forced labour. They left behind their seven-year-old child and an elderly parent without help or supervision. During the Beijing Olympics in 2008, without consideration for Ms. Liu Yongli's elderly mother, who was by then more than eighty years old, and without considering Ms. Liu Yongli's ten-year-old son, officers from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) arrested Ms. Liu Yongli's husband, and sent him to a brainwashing centre. They also attempted to arrest Ms. Liu Yongli. Ms. Liu Yongli's elderly mother was terrified and passed away, leaving the child alone with no one to care for him. Ms. Liu Yongli's mother did not get to see her daughter and son-in-law again before she died. Now Ms. Liu Yongli has been arrested again.

Practitioner Mr. Wan Minhai, over 40 years old, was an employee at the Xuanhua Iron and Steel Factory before he was laid off for practising Falun Gong. He lives on the east side of the Xuanhua residential area. In March 2002, he was sent to a forced labour camp because he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. He was unlawfully persecuted at the Tangshan Forced Labour Camp. In recent years, he has been arrested and detained many times.

Practitioner Ms. Feng Yanli, more than 40 years old, lives on the east side of the Xuanhua residential area. She was an employee at the Xuanhua Iron and Steel Factory before she was forced to stay home because she practises Falun Gong. She has been arrested and detained many times. The officers from the Dongsheng Police Department and her work security section even forced her husband to divorce her. While the Beijing Olympics were taking place, she was sent to a brainwashing centre for several months.

Practitioner Ms. Yan Xiulian lives in the Shipai building of the Xuahua residential area. She was arrested by the police and was forced to write a guarantee statement to denounce Falun Gong.
