Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Haidong, 35, from Xiaonianzhuang Village, Zunhua City, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, has been subjected to persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) many times for his belief in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance.

About a little more than a month ago, Mr. Li was again arrested and detained at the Zunhua City Detention Centre. His seriously ill mother was extremely worried and hoped he would be released soon.

In 2002, police from the Zunhua City Police Department arrested Mr. Li and he was tortured with various torture instruments. When he held a hunger strike to protest his detention, he was forced to eat dog food. Mr. Li was later sentenced to three years of forced labour and imprisoned at the Hehuakeng Forced Labour Camp, in Tangshan City. He was put in solitary confinement by guards Wang Yulin and Li Xiaozong. He was also tied on the Dead Person's Bed torture instrument (see http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/12/15/55600.html for an illustration of this torture).

Mr. Li was to be released three years later, but at the time of his release he was immediately taken to a brainwashing centre located at the former Tangshan City Textile University. After returning home, he was dismissed from his job. To earn a living, he borrowed money to buy a car and became a taxi driver.

On February 24th, 2009, the relatives of imprisoned practitioner Mr. Zhao Jingjun and their lawyer from Beijing came to Zunhua to visit Mr. Zhao. The Zunhua City National Security Team and police from the 610 Office1 followed and arrested eight of Mr. Zhao Jingjun's relatives and friends, and ransacked their homes. Mr. Li Haidong was among those arrested, and his taxi was confiscated. Mr. Li was then imprisoned in the Zunhua City Detention Centre. Mr. Zhao Jingjun and his wife Ms. Yan Hongyan were also imprisoned. Two youngsters, one ten and the other four, were left to fend for themselves.

This arrest is another crime committed by the Zunhua City National Security Team and the 610 Office against local practitioners. In early February, they arrested practitioners Zhang Fengchao, Liu Chengjun, Han Shuai, Wei Zheng, and Meng Suling.

Mr. Li's mother suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and paralysis of one side of the body. She was released from the hospital because her family didn't have the funds to pay the hospital costs. She went home before he was fully recovered. She couldn't take care of herself, and was dependent on her husband for everything.

When she found out that her son was arrested, she went to the National Security Team and asked to see him. Her request was turned down by the director, Zhang Lihua, of the National Security Team. Because of worrying about her son, her symptoms turned for the worse. She had high blood pressure and a light myocardial infarction. She was gradually recovering after medical treatment, but she could not eat or sleep well. Her mind is foggy and she calls her son's name in her dreams.

Mr. Li's family went to the National Security Team to request his release and the return of his car. Wang Kunyuan, the deputy director, ignored them. Mr. Li was the sole source of income for his family, and they are struggling to survive.

Policemen participating in ransacking Mr. Li's home: Wang Kunyuan, Wang Jiguo, Zhang Zhimin, Lei Shizhong, and others.
