Greece: Commemorating Ten Years of Persecution

From 18-20th of July 2009, practitioners in Greece held a series of activities to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 20th of July 1999, the day when the Chinese Communist Party began persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

On 18th of July, Greek practitioners went to a popular tourist area called Thissio in Athens, where they displayed notice boards exposing the persecution and distributed fliers. People were reading the information boards and asked questions about Falun Gong, which the practitioners happily answered for them.

On 19th of July, practitioners accepted an invitation to introduce the practice and talk about the human rights abuses against Falun Gong in China to a group of people in Korinthos, a city almost one hour away from Athens. After these people learnt the facts of persecution, they condemned the actions of the CCP and said to practitioners that they are well aware of the evil nature of the CCP. The organiser of the event said that he would be very happy if practitioners come again.

On 20th of July, practitioners went to the Chinese embassy to peaceful protest against the atrocities being afflicted on their fellow practitioners by the Chinese communist regime. The police at the embassy were very supportive and glad to take flyers to find out more. They bought bottles of water for the practitioners to relieve them from the heat. After the activity was over, they even offered the practitioners a lift to the metro station!
