Mr. Sun Xiaojun Dies as a Result of Torture by the Zhejiang Province Police Department and the Fourth Prison of Linping City

Mr. Sun Xiaojun from Fuyang City was tortured to the point of death by the Zhejiang Province Police Department and the Fourth Prison of Linping City. Since being released on June 30th, 2009, he had not been able to eat. He vomited even drinking water and was bedridden even while relieving himself. He was delirious and experienced continual cramping in his body. At 11:00 p.m. on July 15th, 2009, he passed away.

Mr. Sun was 32 years old and lived in Fuyang City, Zhejiang Province. Because he practised Falun Gong, he was repeatedly arrested, sentenced and detained. On June 5th, 2007, he was arrested again by officers from the Fuyang 610 Office¹, the Fuyang Police Department and the Zhejiang Province Police Department, and detained in the Fuyang Detention Centre. On January 17th, 2008, he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. On May 14th, 2008, Mr. Sun was sent to the Fourth Prison of Linping City, Zhejiang Province, where he was tortured for more than a year. He had been detained in the prison hospital and injected with unknown drugs. He weighed about 143 pounds before being incarcerated, but as a result of persecution, he became emaciated and his weight fell to 80 pounds.

Mr. Sun's family requested his release on bail for medical treatment many times, however the prison always denied the request. Eventually, in order to shift its responsibility, the prison allowed Mr. Sun to go home on April 16th, 2009. Several days later, the police forcibly took Mr. Sun to the Sixth People's Hospital of Zhejiang Province because they were afraid he would contact other Falun Gong practitioners after recovering. In order to prevent him from recovering, the police ordered the hospital to inject him with a double-dose of an unknown drug, which caused him to become distracted and not able to get up to relieve himself. His family asked that he be allowed to leave the hospital, but the leaders of the Zhejiang Province Police Department tried all means to stop him from being released from hospital.
