Mr. Wang Shiming and His Family Members Arrested Again

At around 7.15 a.m on July 17th, 2009 Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Shiming from Dalian City, Liaoning Province, his elder sister Ms. Wang Min, and their mother were arrested by police from the Tianjin Street Police Station of Zhongshan District. Mr. Wang and Ms. Wang are being held in the Dalian Detention Centre. Their mother was released two days later since their 90-year-old grandmother was left at home alone without anyone to take care of her.

This is the seventh time Mr. Wang has been arrested, and the fourth time that Ms. Wang has been arrested. Mr. Wang's father passed away a long time ago and he lived with his mother, his elder sister and his grandmother.

In October 1999, Mr. Wang was arrested when he appealed for Falun Gong at the Appeals Office in Beijing, but he escaped when his handcuffs came unlocked. He was arrested again when he protested the persecution of Falun Gong in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, and was held in the Dalian Detention Centre for 15 days. In 2000, he was reported to police when he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. The police from the police station of Dalian Machinery Factory ransacked his home and detained him in the Dalian Labour Camp. At that time he was at the age of 21 or 22 and his sister and his mother were also detained.

In the Dalian Labour Camp Mr. Wang was forced to perform labour such as harvesting beans and lifting heavy bags. On March 19th, 2001 he was severely mistreated by prison guards. He was not released until the summer of 2001. Less than half a year later he was arrested again for distributing Falun Gong leaflets and was sentenced to two years of forced labour from the beginning of 2002 to November 2004 in the Dalian Labour Camp.

On January 13th, 2005, when Mr. Wang was distributing Falun Gong leaflets, he was arrested by police from Xinzaizi Police Station in Dalian City and was detained for three years.

Ms. Wang Min had been held in Masanjia Labour Camp in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province in 2004 for two years. In the labour camp she received a three month extension to her sentence simply because she protested her detention by calling out "Falun Gong is good." Her family members suffered greatly from all these arrests.
