On the afternoon of January 11th, 2009, Fangzheng County Domestic Security agents arrested Mr. Ji Baoshan at his home, leaving his unemployed wife and two children in a difficult situation. Mr. Ji was later sentenced to five years in prison.

On December 22nd, 2009, Mr. Ji's nearly 70-year-old mother, his mother-in-law, and his wife came to visit him, but the Hulan City Prison authorities only allowed his mother to see him.

Currently, Mr. Ji is suffering from tuberculosis, has scabies all over his body, and cannot fall asleep. He has said that he has not been given enough food to eat, and no water to drink. Mr. Ji is emaciated and now in the prison hospital. His family requested to have him bailed out on medical parole, but the prison authorities said that he did not qualify.

Mr. Ji used to be able to carry 250-pound bags. He weighed at least 150 pounds and was very healthy. Now he has difficulty walking. His family is determined to secure his release.
