At 8 p.m. on September 15th, 2009 Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Fangpu was arrested by police at his home and was later sentenced to forced labour. He was one of many Falun Gong practitioners arrested by police for the October 1st National Day. Mr. Wang's 80-year-old father, stricken by his arrest, passed away in November without being able to see his youngest son again.
Mr. Wang was sentenced to forced labour for two and a half years and held in the Tuanhe Labour Camp in Daxing County, Beijing. On November 19th, 2009, Mr. Wang and seven other Falun Gong practitioners were transferred to the Xidayingzi Labour Camp in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. Every day he was forced to work for 9 hours with other inmates to produce firecrackers. The labour camp informed his family that they should send him rubber-soled shoes, gloves and mouth covers for his use. He was also subjected to brainwashing everyday.
Mr. Wang's young daughter is about to spend her fourth birthday without her father and she cries for him constantly. To relieve the little girl's worry for her father, Mr. Wang's wife always tells her that he is so busy with his work at the hospital that he could not come home to take care of her.
Mr. Wang is originally from Dongmao Town, Chicheng County, Hebei Province. One day before October 1st, 2009, officers from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) of Chicheng County and police from the Dazhongsi Police Station and the National Security Department of Haidian District in Beijing went to his workplace to investigate him. At 8 p.m. on September 15th, the police arrested him and ransacked his home. They fabricated many false accusations against him. Even now the police still hold his wife's computer and many pieces of private property that was confiscated.
Mr. Wang has been held in the Haidian District Detention Centre and Tuanhe Labour Camp in Beijing. In late November 2009, he was transferred to the Xidayingzi Labour Camp in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. During his detention in Beijing, he has suffered severe mistreatment and his health has deteriorated.
Mr. Wang was arrested by police from the National Security Group of Fengtai District Police Department in 2002. During the four months of detention, he was tortured in various ways. His hands were cuffed behind his back for long periods of time, with one dragged to his back from the top of his shoulder and the other from the small of his back.
Guards forced him to kneel on the ground, with his upper body straight, and fastened a long iron stick to his legs horizontally and squeezed his legs by stepping on the two ends of the stick forcefully. He was slapped in the face, shocked with electric batons, and was stripped and doused with cold water. The prison guards pulled out his eyebrows, beard, armpit hair, chest hair and dragged him on the ground and stepped on him forcefully. Because of the torture, he was unable to walk for ten days. His body was covered with injuries, the nails in his right hand were broken, the nerves in his wrists were injured, and his thumbs became numb for more than six months. Later Mr. Wang was sentenced to 28 months of forced labour and was held in various places, including the Tuanhe Labour Camp in Beijing. Because he refused to give up his practice of Falun Gong, Mr. Wang's term of forced labour was extended for 10 months and he was secretly transferred to the Youth Re-education Group of the Women's Labour Camp. In the last two months, he has been held in Baoding City Labour Camp in Hebei Province. In the 28 months of forced labour, he has suffered so much torture that his hair has turned grey.
