Mr. Feng Xinyan and his wife of Shijiazhuang City have been arrested, detained, tortured, had money extorted from them, and been harassed by the Chinese Communist Party because they practise Falun Gong.

Mr. Feng Xinyan, 44, and his wife, Ms. Wang Yongduo, 47, residents of Fengxudaqi Village, Pingshan County, Hebei Province, started practising Falun Gong in 1997. After becoming practitioners, they always tried to follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, enabling them to benefit mentally and physically. Mr. Feng's arthritis, back and arm pain, and his wife's breast cancer and neck pain were all gone after practising Falun Gong for less than two months. Her family members and neighbours are also getting along well ever since she started to practise.

When Jiang Zemin's, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime started persecuting Falun Gong throughout China on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Feng and his wife went to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong in Beijing, a right guaranteed to them under the Chinese constitution. On reaching Yi County on July 22nd, 1999, they were intercepted and detained by the local police. The following morning they were forcefully escorted back to Pingshan County Police Station by Dawu Village police officer Dong Shuanniu and others. Mr. Feng and Ms. Wang were searched and had four hundred yuan1 extorted from them without being given a receipt. On July 25th they were taken to the Dawu Village government building and detained for three days. During this time, Dawu Village Party secretary Hou Tongxiao and assistant village chiefs Lu Sufang and Dong Shuanniu aggressively brainwashed the couple and also extorted three hundred yuan from them without issuing a receipt.

On February 13th, 2000, when Mr. Feng was again in Beijing to appeal for the rights of Falun Gong, he was arrested and detained in the Tiananmen Square Police Station. On February 14th he was escorted back to Pingshan County by Feng Qingfang, the political security department chief, and Lu Sufang, Dawu Village assistant chief. These officials forced Mr. Feng down on his knees, hit him in the face with a broom, and hit his head and back with a bat. The brutal beating lasted more than an hour. He was then taken to the detention centre. A month later, Mr. Feng was released only after his family paid 2,000 yuan to Feng Qingfang, the security chief.

On February 17th, 2000 Ms. Wang Yongduo was arrested by Huo Tongxiao and Lu Sufang, who, on February 18, stormed and ransacked the couple's home and took a motorcycle that belonged to Mr Feng's father. Ms. Wang was detained for three days and finally released after another 3090 yuan was paid to Zhou Yongxia and Dong Shuanniu.

On April 23rd, 2000, as the "politically sensitive" day April 25th approached, Mr. Feng and Ms. Wang were again arrested by Dawu Village government and detained for five days.

On July 18th, 2000, Hou Tongxiao and Lu Sufang went with a few other officers from the village government building and its precinct to ransack Mr. Feng's home. They robbed him of his one and only tractor on which his family depended for their existence. The tractor was in police custody for more than six months, even after Mr. Feng contacted them many times.

On November 24th, 2000, five practitioners including Mr. Feng and his wife were arrested and taken to the village government building for three days of detention. Again on December 30th they were arrested and detained for five days.

On the night of April 24th, 2001, several police officers led by Huo Sanshuan arrested Mr. Feng and Ms Wang and took them to the village government for another three-day detention.

On the evening of May 31st, 2001, the couple was again arrested by Huo Sanshuan and others and taken to the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). During this time Mr. Feng had a chance to get away and was then homeless for two and half years. His wife was held in the brainwashing centre for five days, where she refused to co-operate when being photographed. She was abused and insulted by 610 Office manager Wang Genting.

In the winter of 2003, Mr. Feng was once again arrested by Dawu Village CCP secretary Qi Linian and police assistant chief Qie Huiting and taken to the county public security bureau for questioning and was then sent to its detention centre for 20 days and its Wentang Brainwashing Centre for a week. Mr. Feng was later released.

During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Dawu Village police chief Zhang Xinhui and Zhao Wensheng with the village government again stormed into Mr. Feng's home, taking away all Falun Gong books and other Falun Gong materials.
