Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Bai Xia from Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, was sentenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and persecuted for two years in Wanjia Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City. She was forced to perform hard labour, physically abused, and shocked with electric batons by the guards. Below is her account of the persecution that she suffered.
My name is Bai Xia. On September 22nd, 2004, I was arrested by officers from the Wanfa Police Station when I was distributing information about Falun Gong in Bayan County. I was detained in the detention centre until November 2004 and then taken to the Wanjia Forced Labour Camp to serve a two-year term. The processing documentation was incomplete and I refused to allow my fingerprints to be taken.
I was sent to the training team in Wanjia Forced Labour Camp. In the morning, we were forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong. In the afternoon, we were forced to perform hard labour, and in the evening, we were forced to discuss the video we watched in the morning. Once, after I said that Falun Gong is not a cult and that all my mother's illnesses disappeared after practising Falun Gong, they put me in a small, dark room. Three guards (two women and one man, team leader Yao, who is in his 40s) beat me brutally and then hung me up. Yao shocked me with an electric baton around my neck. It was so painful that I screamed. Later my face became swollen, with many big blisters.
In the spring of 2005, I was taken to the number 12 team. I was pressured to write the guarantee statement to give up practising Falun Gong. I refused to, so I was forced to squat and stand, and then they hung me up.
At the beginning of November 2005, I refused to write a report that praised the CCP. Team leader Huo was very angry. He added another month to my term and forced me to squat for three days and nights. My calves were covered with broken blisters. Then they forced me to sit on a metal chair in only my underwear. In early November, it was very cold, but they opened all the windows and only let me wear one layer of clothing. The inmate who was watching me was shivering from the cold even though he was wearing a coat and hat. I was forced to sit on the chair for 15 days.
In March 2006, the camp started a campaign to "re-adjust mindsets." I didn't co-operate, so I was forced to squat and was not allowed to sleep. Later I was forced to sit on a small plastic stool, with both legs together and my hands on my knees. I was hung up after sitting there for four days and nights. Team leader Zhang used an electric baton to shock me all over my body.
Those two years of persecution in the forced labour camp were miserable. There are too many details to go over one by one, such as not being allowed to use the restroom and having to finish the task of stacking boxes of lollipop sticks before being allowed to sleep. The food there was just cornmeal in the form of soup. Even the older folks in their 60s and 70s were treated like this.
