Falun Gong practitioner Liu Renling from the Mouping District, Yantai City, Shandong Province, was sentenced to nine years in Shandong Women's Prison on April 23rd, 2007. She has been beaten and tortured while imprisoned. Her family's request for her release due to poor physical health has been denied.

Ms. Liu, formerly employed by the Mouping District Cotton Product Factory, has been repeatedly persecuted since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) initiated it campaign against Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999.

On July 26th, 2001, Lin Aiguo from the Security Department of the Cotton Product Factory and Zhang Shubo and He Zhongren from the Political Security Department of the Mouping District broke into Ms. Liu's home and arrested her. She was detained in the Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp in Zibo City for two years.

In September 2004, she became homeless as a result of the persecution.

On October 15th, 2006, she was arrested again in Laishan, Yantai City, by Han Tao, director of Binhai Road Police Substation, and officers Song Xiaoni, Jiang Yelin, and others. She was detained and tortured in the Laiyang Detention Centre. The officers hung her up and beat her for three days and nights. She lost a lot of weight due to the torture.

Ms. Liu was sentenced to nine years in prison on March 23rd, 2007, at the Laishan Branch of Yantai City Court and sent to Shandong Women's Prison in Jinan on April 23rd, 2007. As a result of the ill treatment in prison, her physical condition deteriorated, her blood pressure severely increased, and she lost several front teeth.

One afternoon in the summer of 2008, several prisoners dragged Ms. Liu to the room with team lead of group training Xue Yanqin and the team lead in charge of persecuting Falun Gong. Led by Zhang Shoulan, over 10 prisoners beat Ms. Liu until she collapsed. She was then taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

In May 2009, the prison officials notified Ms. Liu's family that she had very high blood pressure. When her family arrived to see her on May 11th, they discovered that she had endured long-term torture and forced labour because she refused to give up her belief. They also learned that the guards forced those who have been "transformed" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] to beat her, and that officials threatened to extend her prison term. Ms. Liu's mother asked to take her daughter home due to her poor physical condition, but the prison officials refused even to consider her request.
