The Couple Mr. Liu Xigong and Ms. Le Xiuwen Facing Sentencing by Haidian District Court in Beijing

The couple Mr. Liu Xigong and Ms. Le Xiuwen were arrested on Xinkou Street, Beijing on December 19th, 2009. Their home was also ransacked on the same day; the police confiscated many personal belongings including Falun Gong books, discs and an MP3 player. The elderly couple were sent to Xicheng District Detention Centre first, transferred to Beijing No. 1 Detention Centre, and later taken to Haidian District Court. During their detention, Mr. Liu Xigong had to be taken to a medical facility for emergency care. However, officials from Haidian District Court have refused to allow Mr. Liu's relatives to visit him or to release him.

Haidian District Court held a hearing for the couple on June 2nd, 2010.

Mr. Liu Xigong is 67 years old this year. Because he informed about the true nature of Falun Gong and the persecution he was forcibly arrested to a brainwashing centre, and his company fired him. Officials from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) constantly harassed him, to the point where he couldn't lead a normal life and had to leave his home with his wife. Even though the couple had already left their home, officials from the 610 Office continued to monitor their home.

Ms. Le Xiuwen is about 60 years old this year. She was arrested by the police, who had been lying in wait when she went to a fellow practitioner's home, and she was then sent to a detention centre. After she was released, officials from the 610 Office and her company kept on harassing her. They planned to take her to a brainwashing centre in order to force her to give up her belief, but in the end they failed. Ms. Le's company later fired her. Because officials from the 610 Office and her company kept harassing her, she had to leave her home to avoid further persecution.
