Mr. Zhang Qingshu, 45, is a resident of Dingzhangzi Village, in Qinglong County, Hebei Province. He was arrested many times for practising Falun Gong. On July 16th, 2000, the Director of the Police Substation Li Shen detained him. Mr. Zhang was then taken to a detention centre and later transferred to the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp of Hebei Province for two years. He was released on April 27th, 2002.

Mr. Zhang was arrested at his home on the evening of February 21st, 2003, by Liang Qingru, the director of Louzhangzi Police Substation. He was taken to the Tangshan City Hehuakeng Forced Labour camp and detained for three years.

On February 3rd, 2009, Mr. Zhang was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong in Haihongzhuang Village of Xiaoyingzi Town when he was reported by Liu Qing, the village Communist Party secretary. Song Xueqiang, director of the Police Substation of Xiaoyingzi, then arrested him. He was sent to the Balizhuang Forced Labour Camp of Baoding City, Hebei Province, and has been detained there since February 16th, 2009.

After three terms of forced labour, Mr. Zhang's family has run out of savings. Zhang's 82-year-old mother worried about her son a great deal, and she recently passed away due to illness.

Mr. Zhang's 78-year-old father constantly misses his son. Mr. Zhang's wife went to visit Zhang Qingshu in the labour camp on June 16th, 2010. However, labour camp officials refused to let her see him, using the excuse that he has not renounced Falun Gong.
