Mr. Tang Guoping, about 47 years old, was a doctor in Yanghe Town in Huaying City, Sichuan Province. Because he would not give up his practice of Falun Gong, on numerous occasions he was persecuted by the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), police, and town government officials. His family has had more than ten thousand yuan1 extorted from them. Mr. Tang was sent to forced labour twice for a total of four and a half years. He was tortured in Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Mianyang City. He was subjected to extensive abuse.

Displaying the banner "Falun Gong is good" in Beijing and being arrested, detained, and beaten

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Tang persisted in his practice of Falun Gong and was persecuted many times. In June 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He raised a banner that said, "Falun Gong is good" at the Tiananmen Tower. He was arrested by plainclothes officers and security guards. They brutally beat him and locked him up in the security room downstairs. Later they took him to Tiananmen police station. The Guan'an officials stationed in Beijing later brought him to their office. They detained him for seven days. Huaying City police officer Xu Yunhua and Yanghe Town government official Guo Li came to Beijing to bring him back to his hometown. He was then locked up in the Huaying City Detention Centre.

The inmates in the detention centre brutally beat him. They hit him at least two hundred times, causing his chest and back to become swollen and bruised. Despite these injuries, the police still forced him to do labour such as mopping the floor and lifting coal.

When Tang Guoping was being detained, government official Guo Li and police officer Xu Yunhua went to his house to threaten his parents, siblings, and wife. They extorted more than ten thousand yuan from them. After he was detained for more than a month, they released him on bail.

Tortured in Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Mianyang City

In April 2001, Xu Yunhua and Qu Bin, a police officer with the national security division of Huaying City, ganged up with Yanghe town police station chief Bo Changlin, policeman Peng Bo and others to arrest Tang Guoping. They took him to Huaying City Detention Centre.

In September 2001, the local officials sentenced him to one and a half years of forced labour. They locked him up in Xinhua Forced Labour Camp. Mr. Tang and many practitioners in the camp were tortured cruelly. The policemen frequently used electric batons to shock them, beat them with batons, tied them up, made them stand or squat for extended periods, deprived them of sleep, did not allow them to use the toilet, burned their beards or moustaches, made them stand in the freezing cold in winter, made them stand in the scorching sun in summer, and made them run and jump for long periods of time. Anyone who did not obey would be pushed and dragged along. The police also pushed a practitioner into the brick oven to be roasted. The practitioners were forced to put on handcuffs and shackles. They also force-fed the practitioners with unknown drugs. Mr. Tang suffered much mental and physical torment.

At the end of October, he was released. Twenty days later he had symptoms of severe pneumonia and was sent to the hospital for treatment. Guo Li, police chief Qiao Xiaoping, and policemen Peng Bo and Chen Shiming started to monitor him. Later he was detained in Huaying City Brainwashing Centre. Because his physical condition had deteriorated, they let him go home.

Persecution in the brainwashing centre

In June 2004, Mr. Tang started to clarify the truth to students. He was reported to the authorities by teachers Chu Shiguo and Yang Yanhong. He was arrested and his home was ransacked. The officials who participated in the persecution included 610 Office chief Su Bihua, four policemen including Yuan Jianming, and three town government officials. At midnight one night, the police took him to the detention center.

At the end of June 2004, the police sent him to Huaying City Brainwashing Centre.

Once again persecuted in a forced labour camp

On July 25th, 2004, Huaying City police sentenced him to three years of forced labour. In Xinhua Forced Labour Camp, Mr. Tang was cruelly abused. His left eye, knees, and mental health suffered badly. He was hospitalised on bail in May 2006. After returning home, 610 Office personnel and policemen frequently went to his house to monitor and harass him. His wife could not endure all the harassment and left home. His children had no one to take care of them and could not go to school.

In early July, police officers Yang and Du Fugan once again went to "visit" the practitioners who had been persecuted. Mr. Tang was once again harassed. The personnel who participated in the persecution included 610 Office head Su Bihua, six persons from Yanghe Town, Cai Huajie, and police officers Bo Changlin and Peng Bo.
