Falun Gong Married Couple Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Lu Guijuan, fifty-seven-year-old this year, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Zhucheng City, Shandong Province. Before practising Falun Gong, she was physically weak and had severe hypertension. Her husband, Lin Shuhua, had severe heart disease and could not do heavy labour. But after the couple practised Falun Gong, they recovered from their illnesses and became healthy. During the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, they were also persecuted, and on April 9th, 2010, they were sentenced to imprisonment. Ms. Lu Guijuan was sentenced to six and a half years, while her husband was sentenced to three and a half years.

Under the extreme pressure that communist regime has exerted on Falun Gong practitioners since July 20th, 1999, Mr. Lin Shuhua gave up his practice of Falun Gong; however, Ms. Lu Guijuan persisted in her belief. In 2001, she was held in a detention centre, then sent to Wangchun Forced Labour Camp for three years.

After she was released from the forced labour camp, she continued to persist in her cultivation. After her husband gave up his cultivation, his old illnesses returned. He started to practise Falun Gong again, and his health gradually recovered. On March 30th, 2009, Zhucheng City officials, led by Zou Qingzhong and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) ordered police from the Zhucheng City Domestic Security Team to carry out another round of arrests of Falun Gong practitioners. Both husband and wife were abducted. Their computer, printers and other household items were stolen, together with more than ten thousand yuan¹ in cash.

Many practitioners were detained in a school compound that had been converted to a brainwashing facility. Lin Shuhua and some male practitioners were subjected to physical torture. The evildoers assaulted them with rubber batons and deprived them of sleep. Four days later, Lin Shuhua had symptoms of heart problems and was sent to the hospital. He was later released on bail. Lu Guijuan and other practitioners were persecuted for half a month in that place before being transferred to the Zhucheng City Detention Centre to be further persecuted.

During the detention period Lu Guijuan's blood pressure rose continuously until on September 9th, 2009 the systolic pressure reached 230mmHg. She was weak and listless, but the 610 Office refused to release her.

After being persecuted for more than a year in the detention centre, on April 9th, Zhucheng City Court held a show trial and sentenced her to six and a half years of imprisonment. On December 28th, Zhucheng City Court summoned Lin Shuhua who had been released on bail for treatment. He was directly taken from the court by the domestic security team to the detention centre. On April 9th, he was sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment. Due to the extreme pressure, Lin Shuhua had a heart attack. After the trial, Zhucheng City 610 Office and the domestic security team were worried that the prison would refuse to accept him due to his poor health condition. On the way to Jinan City Prison, they forced Lin Shuhua to take medication. Both husband and wife appealed their sentences, but to no avail. They were subsequently sent to Jinan City Prison
