Ms. Zhao Yan, a practitioner from Beijing in her 30s, has been subjected to mistreatment in the Women's Forced Labour Camp in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, for refusing to give up her faith in Falun Gong.

She was arrested by police while distributing materials to expose the persecution of Falun Gong in January 2008, and subsequently sentenced to two years of forced labour near Beijing. However, authorities then transferred her and several other practitioners to the Women's Forced Labour Camp in Hohhot under the excuse of security concerns related to the Olympic Games.

At the labour camp, Ms. Zhao was subjected to solitary confinement in a small cell for refusing to give up her faith. The guards also taped and gagged her mouth when she shouted "Falun Gong is good." For a period of time, she was given very little food.

Ms. Zhao has been repeatedly transferred from one group to another and persecuted by the authorities during the past two years in the labour camp. Her prison term has been extended for unspecified reasons.
