Ms. Ma Yuming, In Her Fifties, Dies after Being Poisoned in Detention Centre

On May 1st, 2010, Ms. Ma Yuming went to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in Liuzhou City. While making her way home, she was searched at the South Train Station, and the police found Falun Gong materials in her possession.

She was taken to Liuzhou Railroad Police Department Detention Centre, where guard Xie Junrong forced Ms. Ma to take part in a series of military training exercises in the last week of May, despite the fact that she was suffering from high blood pressure.

One of the exercises required her to to raise her legs high as she marched, which made Ms. Ma feel very dizzy and weak. When she told Guard Xie about her condition, he cursed at her, then handcuffed her to a metal gate for several hours, claiming that she had not passed the training requirements.

After her handcuffs were removed, she could not move her right hand, yet her hands shook uncontrollably. As a result, she was unable to take care of herself, and others had to feed her.

Unbeknownst to Ms. Ma, every day the guards laced her food with unknown drugs, causing her condition to worsen to the point that she eventually became very confused and then lost consciousness.

Within the span of a month, Ms. Ma went from being very healthy to critically ill. Fearing that she would would die while in their their custody, the detention centre authorities ordered her release in the early morning of June 10th.

On June 19th, Ms. Ma passed away at Liuzhou Central Hospital.
