Hu Huaichao, captain of the National Security Team in the She County Public Security Bureau, led approximately eight plainclothes police officers to break into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Yang Xitian, at midday on September 25th, 2010. They showed no IDs, didn't clarify their identities, and started ransacking the home. They confiscated Falun Gong books, a DVD player, and a TV satellite receiver. Then they tried to enter Yang Xitian's son's room. Since they did not have a key, they tried to pry open the door. Yang Xitian was afraid they would damage the door, so he went around and entered through the window to open the door. The police rushed into the room and started to confiscate property. They then ransacked Yang Xitian's parents' room. Finally they arrested Yang Xitian and his wife Wang Qiaolian, and took them to the Public Security Bureau, and interrogated them separately. The police provided no food and kept them cuffed for the entire night. The next morning, the police still did not provide any food to the couple. In the afternoon, the police took Yang Xitian and his wife to a detention centre.

In the detention centre, Wang Qiaolian was forced to get up and do the cleaning every morning starting at 6:00 a.m. She was then forced to do slave labour, packaging small decoration gifts made by male prisoners. Every day she had to work 14 to 15 hours. There was only some thin porridge and a bun for breakfast, boiled pumpkin for lunch, and the leftovers boiled with noodles for dinner. The three meals never changed during her detention, and the poor food caused Wang Qiaolian's stomach pains over the length of her detention.

Yang Xitian was sentenced to forced labour for eight months and was sent to the Handan Forced Labour Camp on October 22nd. He had only summer clothes when he was sent to the forced labour camp. Hu Huaichao and other officers also forced Yang Xitian's son to invite them for dinner and send them gifts. Yang Xitian's son had to borrow money from everywhere, and spent nearly ten thousand yuan1. Hu Huaichao claimed it was the fine he had to pay. But he provided no receipt. It all went into the police's personal pockets. When the couple was arrested, they had harvested only a small portion of their corn field. After they were arrested, most of the corn had to be harvested by others. Also, Yang Xitian's father is old needs to be take care of by others, which is an additional strain on the family caused by couple's absence.
