Ms. Zhao Yan, in her 30s and from Beijing, was arrested by officers from the Beijing 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in 2008, when she was reported to the authorities for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was first detained in Beijing and then sentenced to two years in Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia, along with several other practitioners.

Ms. Zhao was tortured both physically and mentally because she did not cooperate with the guards at the labour camp. She refused to wear the prison uniform or do forced labour. She would not recite the camp rules, nor would she write a guarantee statement to give up practising Falun Gong. As a result she was put in solitary confinement for a long period of time. When she shouted “Falun Gong is good,” several guards put tape across her mouth to prevent her from speaking.

The labour camp authorities should have released Ms. Zhao on December 10th, 2010, but they extended her sentence by four months because she did not give up her belief or follow the camp's rules. The authorities at the camp are not allowing her to call her family.

Those responsible for the persecution of Ms. Zhao Yan:

Sun Jinyan, head of the Hohhot Forced Labour Camp: 86-471-5692968
Wang Dianyun, deputy head of Hohhot Forced Labour Camp: 86-471-5693025
Guo Xiangzhi, deputy head of Hohhot Forced Labour Camp: 86-471-5693039, 86-471-5693112
