Husband Dies in Anguish While 70-year-old Wife is Jailed in Penglai City

Ms. Men Hongfen was sentenced to a four-year prison term in January 2011. Her husband, Chi Weiguo, died on January 16th as a result of grief.

Ms. Men wouldn't give up practising Falun Gong and told people the facts about it. She was arrested many times by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents, and has been arrested three times by the Daxingdian Police Department since 2005, and forcibly taken to brainwashing centres.

On April 7th, 2010, Ms. Men and practitioners Yu Guixiang and Zhang Xiuhua went to Daxingdian Town Market to tell people about Falun Gong. They were arrested by plainclothes police officers, taken to Penglai City in the afternoon, and detained in the Magezhuang Brainwashing Centre for 13 days.

Ms. Men was again persecuted by the CCP agents on May 10th, 2010, because she told people about Falun Gong. She was forced to stay away from her home to avoid being illegally arrested. Her husband, Chi Weiguo, previously was deaf. After he began practising Falun Gong he was able to hear again, but due to continuous harassment by the CCP, he got sick and had to be hospitalised.

In mid-December 2010, Ms. Men, who had stayed away from home for months, was arrested by the police when she was taking care of her husband in Penglai Herbal Medical Hospital. She was then taken to the Penglai City Detention Centre and sentenced to a four-year prison term in January this year.

610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) staff person Li Yuelian, along with officers Zhao Changshen, Nie Honglin, and Sun Jianchun from the Branch Police Department in Penglai City, arrested local practitioners from time to time and created a terrifying atmosphere. Starting around the time of the 2008 Olympics in China, they began wearing plainclothes and drove unmarked police cars to follow and monitor practitioners, looking for opportunities to arrest them.
