Zhang Wei is a Falun Gong practitioner from Wuhan City. Since the Jiang Zemin Jiang Zemin, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime started the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in 1999, Mr. Zhang has been repeatedly detained and interrogated. His home was ransacked, he was detained at a brainwashing centre, and he was even sentenced to forced labour. The following is his own account of the events.
I went to Hubei Provincial Government to appeal for Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, requesting the release of innocent Falun Gong practitioners who had been arrested. At 5:00 p.m. I was pushed into a police car and detained at the Ziyanglu Police Station in Wuchang.
Two officers from the Hongweilu Police Station of Qingshan District broke into my home on July 22nd, 1999, and took me to the police station where they forced me to sign a statement pledging to give up my belief in Falun Gong. They later repeatedly harassed me at home and threatened to ransack my home.
I was practising Falun Gong alone in the woods of Heping Park on March 30th, 2000, when I was arrested and taken to the Hongweilu Police Station by Zhang Zujun from the National Security Team at Qingshan District Police Bureau, along with a deputy director named Liu from the Hongweilu Police Station. I was beaten by police officer Liu, and I was detained for fifteen days. My home was also ransacked.
I was distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution on August 30th, 2000. I was arrested at home by officers from the National Security Team of the Qingshan District Police Bureau and the Hongweilu Police Station. I was detained for a month, during which time I was tortured by being forced to stand for a long period of time. I was also deprived of sleep and I was forced to carry a table on my back for a long period of time. My home was ransacked again.
I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on October 2nd, 2000. I was detained at the Tiananmen Police Station and beaten by the police. A police officer pushed me down to the ground, put one foot on my back, and hit my buttocks with batons. As a result, half of my thigh turned black with bruises. Another police officer stood on my face. I was later detained at the Beijing Deputy Office of Wuhan City. Two days later I was escorted back to Wuhan and detained for a month. I was detained at the Qingshan Brainwashing Centre and forced to undergo brainwashing. I was sentenced to one year of forced labour.
I was arrested by officers from the National Security Team of the Wuchang District Police Bureau on April 25th, 2002, and detained for one month, then later detained at the detention centre of the Qingshan Police Bureau, where I met with officer He Lanping. He ordered armed police to beat me.
On February 23rd, 2003, officers from the National Security Brigade in Wuchang District, in collusion with the National Security Brigade in Qingshan District, arrested me and detained me at the brainwashing centre in the worker village of Qingshan District. I was deprived of sleep for six consecutive days and nights. I was forcibly "transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] and later detained for one month. Yuan Lianghong, Wu Xinfei, police officers Zhang Zujun and He Lanping were the main persecutors.
On March 8th, 2006, on my return trip from my parent's home in Guangxi Province to Wuhan, I was arrested by officers from the National Security Brigade of Liuzhou Railway Bureau in Guangxi Province, and detained for ten days.
I was again arrested by officers from the National Security Brigade in Qingshan District on September 12th, 2008, and was interrogated at the police station on Hongwei Road.
On April 20th, 2009, Liu Yong from the National Security Brigade in Qingshan, Wuhan, and a policeman named Hu from the Hongweilu Police Station broke into my house. They damaged the door by kicking it and arrested my daughter and me. We were interrogated at the Hongweilu Police Station.
