On January 17th, Ms. Wang Dongying was arrested by Baoshan District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) of Shanghai. The 610 Office claimed Dongying’s younger sister, Ms. Wang Wenju, reported her to the authorities. Ms. Wenju had been brainwashed by the 610 Office for three months and was released the same day Ms. Dongying was arrested.

Before practising Falun Gong, Ms. Dongying suffered various diseases including breast cancer. After practising Falun Gong, her health had been restored. She also helped manage her daughter's bookstore with her husband.

On January 17th approximately 2 pm, Ms. Dongying was doing housework. The head of the committee from the Baolinsi Village local Chinese Communist Party (CCP) came by and asked her to report to the local neighbourhood committee office. After Ms. Dongying opened her door, policemen from the 610 Office swarmed in and ransacked her home. They confiscated a set of Falun Gong books and a fax machine that her son-in-law had used. Approximately at 4 pm, she was arrested, taken to the local neighbourhood committee and later to Baoshan District Detention Centre

Chen Ke, a key official at the Baoshan District 610 Office, is in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. He said to Ms. Dongying’s family, “The reason they ransacked her home was that her younger sister had reported her.”

Ms. Dongying's younger sister, Ms. Wenju and Ms. Wenju's 61-year-old husband, Mr. Zou Weijun, a middle school teacher, started practising Falun Gong in 1997.

On October 17th, 2010, Ms. Wenju and Mr. Weijun were reported and arrested by the authorities while talking to people about Falun Gong at a fruit store in Luodian Town of Baoshan District. They were detained at the Baoshan District Detention Centre. Later, they were transferred to Shanghai Legal Education School for forced brainwashing.

The police found 1,000 yuan¹ with Falun Gong information written on them at Ms. Wenju's home. The authorities told her as long as she admitted to the money coming from her older sister, she would be released and they would not bother her sister. After three months of being brainwashed and tortured, Ms. Wenju became mentally disorientated and cooperated with the authorities. Thus, the police went to arrest her older sister, Ms. Dongying.
