Disabled Man Hu Shihan and His Wife Ruthlessly Persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

Mr. Hu Shihan suffered polio as a child resulting in disabled lower legs. He and his wife, Cai Xifeng, began practising Falun Gong in 1998. Since the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, they suffered various persecution at the hands of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) thugs, such as being exposed to freezing weather; subjected to brutal beating, torture, and armed siege; brainwashing; and pressure to break up their marriage. They are still under surveillance and the local police and resident committee staff constantly harass and threaten them.

Order from the Party Higher-Up: “After they freeze to death, process them as nameless corpses.”

At the end of December 2000, Hu Shihan and Cai Xifeng went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They were beaten by the policemen at Tiananmen Square. They were then held at Chaoyang Detention Centre. When the police noticed that Mr. Hu was disabled, they dragged him out and threw him onto the ground. They also detained his wife.

Mr. Hu Shihan asked the policeman to release his wife, but was refused. He waited outside in the freezing -9ºC weather. He hardly ate anything and waited day and night for ten days, asking them to release his wife. The authorities not only did not release his wife, but secretly transferred her to Liaoning Province in the Northeast.

In addition to Mr. Hu Shihan, there was a blind Falun Gong practitioner waiting for his wife. There were a few nights when several kind-hearted policemen asked them to come inside the room to get warm. Later, they were discovered by their superiors and reprimanded. They were not allowed to help Falun Gong practitioners. The CCP higher-up stated, “After they freeze to death, process their bodies as nameless corpses.”

One night, an upper-level official, wearing a heavy coat inside the heated room looked at them from the window all night. He enjoyed seeing Mr. Hu and his fellow practitioner suffer. Later, the local police took Mr. Hu and his wife to their city.

After they returned to their city, Mr. Hu was held in a detention centre. The very first day in detention, he was forced to take a cold shower. He was violently shaking due to the cold. One of the inmates ordered him to stand near the wall and suddenly hit him in the chest hard with his fist at least seven or eight times. He was severely wounded and could hardly move. Even though he was in such poor condition, he was still ordered to do slave labour and was beaten and cursed at on a daily basis.

In February 2001, after one month in detention, Mr. Hu Shihan was transferred to Jianghan District Brainwashing Class in Wuhan City and faced continued persecution.

Wife Cai Xifeng was sentenced one year in labour camp

While Mr. Hu Shihan suffered in the detention centre, his wife also suffered brutal persecution both mentally and physically. While in the detention centre, she was hung by her hands from a steel door frame with heavy metal chains. She was forced to stand for over 24 hours and her feet were severely swollen. She was deprived of toilet breaks and was given no hygiene items, even when she was menstruating.

She was also held in the detention centre for one month and was transferred to Hewan Labour Camp in Wuhan City. At the labour camp, she was monitored by inmates and the guards were constantly attempting to brainwash her with slanderous propaganda. She was also forced to perform intensive labour.

Under armed siege by the police

One night in May 2002, someone knocked on Mr. Hu's door. The couple opened their door and several security guards barged into their home. They attempted to take away his stereo, but the couple stopped them. After the security guards left, they called for back up, who came in over ten police cars, and over a dozen policemen with guns surrounded his home.

The scary scene shocked all the neighbours. There were hundreds of bystanders. Mr. Hu and his wife shut their door, and refused to allow the police to enter. When the policemen were ready to kick down the door, the crowd stopped them. “You should be ashamed of yourselves. Handling two gentle souls with guns in such a rough way.” Facing scorn from the group, the police retreated.

Taken for brainwashing again

In November 2002, before the CCP held their 16th Conference, a group of policemen and the staff from the resident committee, broke into Mr. Hu Shihan's home. The couple was arrested and held in Jianghan District Brainwashing Class. Mr. Hu was held in one room on the third floor and there were two people monitoring him day and night. They broadcast programmes that slandered Falun Gong in the room.

One week later, Mr. Hu was sent to one room on the first floor. There were twenty people there. He was forced to sit in the front. They began verbally attacking him, slandering Falun Gong, and attempted to force him give up his beliefs. They later formed small teams and took turns cursing Falun Gong, and torturing him by forcing him to listen to recordings that slandered Falun Gong at night. He was kept up for days and nights.

Several days later, Mr. Hu was sent to another room. There were slanderous slogans posted on the wall. One night, the group just left the room. The door was shut. There was a female in the room with Mr. Hu. The woman came close to him and put her hand on his shoulder, and shamelessly said, “Brother, if you listen to me, I will come to your room tonight, wash your feet and you can do whatever you want- just the two of us.” Mr. Hu told her, “Get out!” She went out and told the group of people outside the door. They returned, kept him from sleeping, and forced him to stand with his disabled legs. Several guys picked him up and threw him on the ground and they even threatened to harm his child.

In the meantime, his wife Cai Xifeng was also deprived of sleep for days. One guard cursed Falun Gong and berated Cai Xifeng for hours with a most despicable language. She also stabbed Cai Xifeng's hand with a pen, wounding it. The CCP officials even attempted to break up their family. One woman told Cai Xifeng, “I took a neighbour to the dance hall and found her a partner very quickly. In less than one month, she divorced her husband.” Cai Xifeng scolded their despicable idea and disgusting behaviour. Later, she received calls asking her to go to the dance hall, showing they were still attempting to break up their family.

These are the personal experiences of Mr. Hu Shihan and Cai Xifeng. They hope that by exposing the persecution, it will awaken the consciousness and kindness of people everywhere. Together, let us uphold the justice and kindness of humanity.
