Mr. Xu Xiwang, a disabled practitioner, was suddenly awakened at around 5 a.m. on March 18th. The windows of his home were being pried open by officers from the local police station, 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), and the Residential Office. Over a dozen men dragged him out of bed and took him outside. He was thrown into a police car while they ransacked his home.

Practitioners who are taken to the Liuji Brainwashing Centre are assigned to several inmates who have been ordered to monitor their every movement: when visiting the washroom, going for meals, and even while asleep. Practitioners have no freedom. They cannot practise the exercises or talk to others, and they are forced to watch videos defaming Falun Gong. They then have to write essays defaming Falun Gong and write guarantee statements to say that they will not practise Falun Gong anymore. If they refuse to comply with these demands, practitioners are shouted and sworn at, beaten, and even tortured.

Two inmates were assigned to monitor Mr. Xu. They pretended to be kind to him at first, helping him in his daily needs. However, when Mr. Xu refused to comply with their demands, they began to punch and kick him. They even kicked him in the head, knocking him unconscious.

Mr Xu was injected with unknown drugs. He became muddleheaded and began to lose his memory. He could not walk properly, his hands began to shake uncontrollably, and he kept swaying from side to side. The person administering the drug was a male in his 30s from the Xinzhou District People's Hospital.

Mr. Xu was released on March 29th. However, he feared being arrested again and had to leave home to avoid further persecution. He could not recognise any of his friends or neighbours. After just 12 days of persecution, Mr. Xu was adversely affected mentally and psychologically.

Many practitioners are imprisoned in Liuji Brainwashing Centre. Ms. Wang Xilan, a community worker from Zhucheng in Wuhan, was arrested while at work on March 18th, and was taken there. She was demoted at work. Ms. Wang's son had planned to get married in April, and her arrest has caused her entire family great stress.
