Ms. Liu Guizhen, a maths teacher from Fujin City No. 4 Middle School, Heilongjiang Province, was forced to stop teaching in 2006 because she held firm to her belief in Falun Gong. In 2007, she was sentenced to forced labour and tortured in Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp. After being released, the school would not take her back. Recently the school principal, Wu Hongbo, and the deputy principal, Wang Ze, cooperated with the local 610 Office staff (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) to arrest her. The following is her own, personal account of what recently happened to her:
On July 4th, Principal Wu Hongbo lied that he needed to talk to me, and Deputy Principal Wang Ze said that if I did not go, they would fire me. They called my family and lied to my colleagues so that they would deceive me, saying I had to go to talk about my job and salary. I believed them, so I went to school.
When I arrived at the principal's office, Principal Wu said, “Go to Wang Ze’s office first, since I am busy. I will talk to you about your job later.” Their two offices were adjacent to each other, and when he walked me to Wang Ze’s office, I asked him, “Have you people come up with other ways to deceive me?” He said, “It's just to talk about your job.” Wang Ze said, “Teacher Wang [she hadn’t come to work for a long time] came back to work. We talked to her, and we would like to talk to you, too.” After principal Wu left I sat down, and Wang Ze chatted with me as if he was killing time. Finally I asked him whether he needed to talk to me about anything. Wang Ze said, “It is not me who needed to talk to you, it is Principal Wu who wanted to talk to you.”
I felt something was wrong, so I said I needed to go to the washroom. This made him very nervous. He did not want me to go and followed me. I went immediately to see Principal Wu and asked him, “Don’t you people want me to come back to work? I have been respectful of your wishes, but what on earth do you people want?” I saw that Deputy Secretary General Lu Jiyong had already arrived, and there was an unknown female, as well as Bai Zhiqiang from the 610 Office and a person with the last name of Wen.
I saw that they still wanted to persecute me. I didn’t want them to commit more crimes against me. I went downstairs to go home. Wang Ze chased after me. They notified my colleagues Li Guangjun and Cui Baojun. I knew that they did not know the truth since the principal had lied to them, telling them that they wanted me to come back to work. They called to me from the ground floor. I had no other choice but to jump down from the wall, resulting in many injuries. Then Wang Ze seized me, and Bai Zhiqiang from the 610 Office and the person with the last name of Wen kept me from leaving. Bai Zhiqiang got out of the car, started to defame Falun Gong, and threatened me. I was so scared that I sat on the ground with no strength left, unable to move. I was dizzy and felt acute pain in my heart before I lost consciousness. I was taken away by an ambulance, then my family brought me back home. After coming home, Lu Jiyong still harassed me.
I was persecuted in 2006. Deputy Secretary General of the Education Bureau Song Yanrui, Yu Fengqin, and Principal Ma Dechen harassed and persecuted me many times and kept me from teaching. In September 2007, the deputy director of the Fujin City Public Security Bureau, Yu Xinglu; Zhang Ying; Huang Yunfei; and Principal Ma Dechen worked together to arrest me. They arrested my child and took away his keys. They ransacked my home and stayed there for two days. They made a mess of everything and confiscated two of my computers, over ten thousand yuan1 in cash, and other electronics valued at close to thirty thousand yuan. I was sentenced to two years of forced labour and my husband had to leave home and become homeless.
I was inhumanly tortured in Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp, and was released only after my family had spent over thirty thousand yuan. When I went to ask for the return of my computers and money, Yu Xinglu threatened me. When I went again to the public security bureau to ask for the return of my property, I was arrested by the Public Security Bureau and my detention term was extended. When my son went to Yu Xinglu to ask for me, instead of listening, Yu Xinglu cursed him and drove him out. My mother-in-law also went to ask for me, and Yu Xinglu shouted abuses. My 70-year-old grandmother was forced to kneel down before him and he was still so vicious. She had a heart attack and was taken home by my family.
I did not eat or drink for nine days in the detention centre, and I was tortured nearly to death. Seeing this, my family again spent over ten thousand yuan to get me released. Since we were over-loaded with debts, and our son dared not come home, we had to sell our house and were homeless. Under this kind of pressure, my son’s schoolwork suffered. Since July 2007 I have not been allowed to teach. During this time, the principal and the deputy secretary general of the Fujin City Education Bureau, Song Yanrui, have often harassed me and my family. In 2010, the newly appointed principal, Wu Hongbo, and Wang Ze used the excuse that I needed to take care of my son at home to keep me from returning to work. When my son left home to go to the university, I wanted my job back, but then they claimed that the city wouldn’t allow me to work. Whenever there are sensitive dates, they call my family and urge them to harass me.
