Ms. He Yanhua is a teacher at Shanhe High School in the Maogang District, Maoming. While she was teaching on the afternoon of October 21st, Lu Fengliang from the Yangjiao Party Committee led personnel from the Yangjiao Town government, Yangjiao Police Station, and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) to forcibly carry her out of the school to a vehicle, which took her to the Maoming Brainwashing Centre.

Ms. He Yanhua's husband went to the school to ask the principal about his wife on October 27th. The principal was not present. A person who claimed to be an instructor received him. Ms. He's husband asked where Ms. He was and why the school did not inform him after she was taken to the brainwashing centre. The instructor said they did not have a phone number for Ms. He's husband. Ms. He's husband asked how Ms. He performed in her job at the school. The instructor said she did a good job; it was the 610 Office that was in charge, not the school; the school still paid her.

Ms. He's husband learned that Ms. He had been taken to the brainwashing centre from class on the afternoon of October 21st. When he called the principal, the principal denied responsibility and said Ms. He got into the vehicle by herself. Ms. He's husband asked to visit Ms. He. The instructor responded that the school's director, Li Zhixiong, lived near the brainwashing centre and he would take Ms. He's husband to the centre.

When Ms. He's husband went to the brainwashing centre, Li Zhixiong was waiting him. Finally Ms. He's husband saw her through the window.

He asked Li Zhixiong when Ms. He would be released. Li Zhixiong said she would be released if she were “transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. Ms. He's husband said, “What is there to 'transform?' She follows Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a good person. Shouldn't a teacher teach students to be good?” Li Zhixiong said, “You are her husband. Don't you want her to come home? If she does not give in, we will have to remove her from her job.”

In the past years, Ms. He has been well-liked by her students and praised by her colleagues. A former principal once called Ms. He personally and said she met the “Excellent Teacher” standard, but he did not dare to give her the title because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecuted Falun Gong practitioners and he worried that he would be sued.

Ms. He was tortured and sent to a forced labour camp because she practises Falun Gong. She went to appeal to the proper departments many times. She just got her salary from last December at the beginning of this September. However, it was only a general employee's salary. This term, due to the workload, the school arranged for Ms. He to teacher chemistry in grade 9 and other classes. She taught more classes than anyone else, but the school only offered her a general employee's salary, which was 300 yuan¹ less than the teacher salary she should have been paid every month. When Ms. He inquired about this with her supervisor, she was told that the 610 Office did not allow her to teach.

Facing this unfair treatment, Ms. He sent appeal letters. Recently, Li Zejun, director of the district education bureau, passed on the directive from the 610 Office: “Either Ms. He must write a letter guaranteeing to give up cultivation before October 15th or be sent to the brainwashing centre.” As a result, Ms. He was sent to the brainwashing centre.
