Ms. Fan Shude, 57, from Shuangcheng City in Heilongjiang Province, was plagued with many illnesses before she practised Falun Gong, included myocarditis, severe stomach aches, kidney problems and arthritis. However, all of her illnesses soon disappeared after she began practising. She has been arrested and tortured five times because of her belief.
Just before the Chinese New Year on February 3rd, 2000, the deputy head of the local police Zhang Guofu, Jin Wanzhi, Zhang Shiyao and Liu Chunyang sent two armed officers to Ms. Fan's home at 10 p.m. to arrest her. She was taken to Shuangcheng No.2 Detention Centre, where she was detained for two months. Her family was forced to pay a 3,000 yuan1 fine and another 400 yuan before they would release her.
The deputy head of Shuangcheng 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) Liu Shanzhong arrested Ms. Fan on the morning of February 12th, 2003, on Chinese New Year’s Day, because she had written “Falun Gong is good” on a lamp post. She was taken to Shuangcheng Police Department, where Zhang Guofu and Jin Wanzhi sentenced her to two years of forced labour. Due to her mistreatment at Shuangsheng Detention Centre, her heart problem recurred and she failed to meet the labour camp's health requirements. However, Zhang Guofu ordered the then-head of the detention centre Liu Qingyu to bribe the deputy head of Wanjia Labour Camp Hospital Song Zhaohui to make sure Ms. Fan was accepted into the labour camp.
Ms. Fan was arrested by officers from Xinyi Police Station in Harbin City on the afternoon of August 1st, 2007 when she was seen delivering truth-clarification materials there. She was taken to Harbin Second Detention Centre. While in detention, the deputy head of the detention centre Zhao Fengxia put her in handcuffs and shackles, and used another set of handcuffs to connect the two. Ms. Fan had to bend over and hold up the heavy shackles to walk and to use the toilet. She had to force herself to eat very little, to reduce her use of the restroom. Zhao Fengxia ordered the doctor at the detention centre to force-feed her for three days. A group of inmates held her down, while a few others sat on her legs. She vomited profusely each time after the force-feeding.
On August 16th, 2007, Ms. Fan was sentenced to one and a half years in Qianjin Forced Labour Camp, where she was tortured for over eight months. During this period of time, guard lead Zhang Bo, political head Wang Min, and guard Zhou Muqi injected her with unknown drugs.
Ms. Fan was arrested by the political head of Shuangcheng Domestic Security Division Wang Yubiao and officer Chen Cunming at around noon on March 25th, 2010, because she had sent Falun Gong DVDs to people. She was taken to Dongfeng Police Station.
About 50 practitioners were arrested by police from Shuangcheng and Harbin Police Department at around mid-day on November 13th. Ms. Fan was also arrested. She was severely tortured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
