Mr. Zhang Wei from Dalian Severely Persecuted

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Wei from Dalian City, Liaoning Province was sentenced to a ten-year prison term by the Chinese Communist regime in 2005. He is currently detained in the “illness section” of the Tenth Prison District in Panjin Jail, Liaoning Province. As a result of the persecution, Mr. Zhang is now severely emaciated. The joints on his fingers are all dark purple and he is extremely weak.

It has been seven years since Mr. Zhang was first imprisoned. Because of his bad condition, he was transferred from the Fourth Prison District to the illness section of the Tenth Prison District. But he is still under the jurisdiction of the Fourth District. Mr. Zhang's parents are over 70 years old and they have come to visit Mr. Zhang several times from far away Dalian City, but were not allowed to see Mr. Zhang. The police from both districts said that they were not in charge.

Several days ago, Mr. Zhang's younger brother and the brother's wife went to visit Mr. Zhang. They waited from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and finally got to see him. They were only allowed to meet with him for thirty minutes.

Mr. Zhang was extremely thin. He could not raise or freely move his arms. His fingernails were white in colour and the finger joints dark purple. The family could not imagine how they tortured a once-healthy man to this extent.

The family brought some things for Mr. Zhang, but the police would not give them to him directly. Instead, they gave them to the prison shop's salesperson and told him to give it to Mr. Zhang. The family had to pay 20 yuan¹ for a “transfer fee.”

Panjin Jail is currently escalating their persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to study the Falun Gong teachings, do the exercises, or buy food. They are being forced to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong].

Several years ago, Mr. Zhang was tortured in Jilin, which resulted in a normally incurable muscle disease. However, after he returned home, he regained his health through Falun Gong cultivation.
