A Family's Anguish: One Daughter Died as a Result of Persecution, Another Daughter and Daughter-in-law in Detention

Ms. Wang Faxiu is a Falun Gong practitioner from Xie Village, Jiuzhai Township, Mengyin County, Shandong Province. On May 22nd, 2012, Ju Peng, head of the Jiuzhai Township 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), led a number of officers from the Jiuzhai Township Police Station to her home. Her family was building a new house, and she was cooking for the builders at the time. Ju Peng and the police ransacked her home, confiscated Falun Gong books and materials, and took Ms. Wang into custody. She is currently being held in the Mengyin County Detention Centre.

Ju Peng also led the police to Ms. Wang's mother-in-law’s home and harassed her. They searched her home and confiscated a calendar with a sentence saying, “Falun Gong is good.”

After Ms. Wang was arrested, her mother-in-law couldn’t sleep at night and was in extreme anguish. She said, “What a society this is! My daughter Zhang Dezhen died as a result of persecution by the communist regime. My eldest daughter Defeng was arrested and detained. Now, my daughter-in-law has also been arrested. How can I get through the days?”

Ms. Zhang Dezhen is the younger sister of Ms. Wang Faxiu’s husband. She was a biology teacher, employed by the Mengyin County Sixth High School (also called Jiuzhai High School). Because she didn't give up her belief in Falun Gong, the Chinese Communist regime subjected her to brutal torture several times. The regime agents arrested her four times between January 2000 and November 2001, and subjected her to detention and imprisonment with severe torture, forced labour, brainwashing, beatings, and forced-feedings.

On September 19th, 2002 Ms. Zhang Dezhen was once again arrested and held in the Mengyin County Detention Centre. She went on a hunger strike to protest and was several times force-fed in the Mengyin County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. She died on January 31st, 2003, Chinese New Year's Eve, after the injection of an unknown drug. She was only 38 years old.
