Wang Xiuyun, female, 47, a Dafa practitioner from Huadian City, Jilin Province, had suffered from a number of serious illnesses. After she took up the practice of Falun Dafa, she regained her health. Dafa had given her a second life.
Since July 20, 1999 when Jiang's regime started the persecution of Dafa, Wang Xiuyun went to Beijing to appeal on numerous occasions. After being arrested and unlawfully detained a number of times, she was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. On June 3, 2002, Wang Xiuyun and seven other practitioners were kidnapped and incarcerated at the Political Security Division of the Huadian City Police Department. Headed by Wang Guangxue, the party secretary of the Huadian City Police Department, the police beat the 8 practitioners savagely. Hoping to extract a confession from the practitioners, they put the practitioners through various tortures. The practitioners were hung up, shocked with electric batons, forced to sit motionless, had plastic bags pulled over their heads and then smoke blown into the bags, etc. Afterwards, they were sent to the Huadian City Detention Centre. On October 9, 2002, without notifying their family, the Huadian City Court put the practitioners on trial in secret. On November 5, 2002, the court held a second trial. Wang Xiuyun was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and other practitioners to 3 to 12 years.
While in detention, Wang Xiuyun went on a hunger strike for 49 days. This combined with the prolonged torture began to take its toll. She developed pulmonary oedema and pleural effusion. For three months, she had to sit upright all day and night because of pain. When the vicious police saw that Wang Xiuyun was struggling just to breathe and became fearful of taking responsibility, they sent her to a hospital at the end of November 2002.
During her stay in hospital, the Huadian City Police Department even attempted to extort 10,000 Yuan [the average monthly income is 500 Yuan in China] from her family as medical expenses. In the past 3 years, the police department extorted over 30,000 Yuan from them. They did not have any money left to pay for the medical expenses. Wang Xiuyun's husband was forced to divorce her. Her younger sister could not contain her anger any longer and told the wicked police, "You have tortured my sister to this extent, yet you still have her handcuffed and shackled! Do you still have any human decency left? My sister was in perfect health when you kidnapped her. You have tortured her to the brink of death. You still want to extort money from us? Even if we had the money, we won't give it to you! I am not finished with you if anything should happen to my sister!"
Since her family members did not oblige the police, they were not allowed to visit her. After three days in the hospital, her condition remained critical. The police forcibly took her back to the detention centre despite the doctor's warning, "If she does not continue to receive care, the consequences will be serious." On December 7, 2002, Wang's condition worsened, and she was returned to the hospital in a critical condition. To shirk liability, the wicked police department and the detention centre injected her with some drugs to keep her alive for the time being. On the 11th, she was secretly sent back to the detention centre. Even though Wang Xiuyun and other practitioners were in the process of appealing to the higher court, the detention centre still sent her to the Heizuizi Prison in Changchun City, Jilin Province in the small hours of December 12 and without notifying her family. Ten days later, at about 9 pm on December 22, Wang Xiuyun sadly passed away.
