"European Friends of Falun Gong" Organisation Writes to Malaysian High Commissioner

Dear High Commissioner,

We wish to express our extreme concern at the decision of the Malaysian government to deport the Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lin Junhui back to her native China. Ms. Lin has already served one year in the harshest conditions of a Chinese labour camp, during which time she suffered untold abuse and torture at the hands of the Chinese authorities.

After arriving in Malaysia in March she applied for UN asylum status but was then arrested by Malaysian immigration officials on April 20th, just after her visa had expired. She was initially told she could go to a third country, Indonesia, only for the immigration office to change its mind and send her back to China.

We appeal to you to do everything in your power to stop the authorities sending Ms. Lin back to China, where she would face the certainty of further abuse and torture and another trial which would almost certainly sentence her to another long period in a labour camp. The Chinese authorities clearly show no respect for the human rights of their own citizens.

More and more governments around the world are hearing about the truth of Falun Gong, and governments such as that of Malaysia will become increasingly isolated in the global political arena by ignoring the plight of people such as Ms. Lin.

As you are no doubt aware, over 2,300 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death since China’s ban on Falun Gong in 1999, and many more thousands languish in prisons and labour camps across the country merely for exercising their constitutional right to freedom of speech and belief. For the Malaysian government to ignore the threat of further torture for Ms. Lin would be an act of extreme inhumanity and would show up Malaysia in a very negative way to the rest of the world.

We urge you therefore to help where you can to overturn this decision to deport Ms. Lin back to China. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
